The only kind of dips we want to see are the ones for our nachos. But dips in your organic traffic are inevitable. And, sometimes, that isn't necessarily a bad thing! There's tons of new search result features, especially for eCommerce, across Google’s various services. And that means more people might come across your products organically! However, that might also lead to a dip in organic traffic to those pages if product grids appear organically above your sites. (On the flipside, you may see an increase if everything is optimized appropriately!) While seeing dips in your organic search traffic can startle you at first, don’t forget to do some digging and see if those numbers pop up somewhere else. Sometimes, it means something is wrong…but other times, it might mean something is right! Where have you seen a dip in your numbers that made your heart sink for a moment? 📉 📉 📉

Starting to see your organic traffic decline year over year? It's not uncommon right now. -Big algo changes over the last year shaking up the SERPs -Reddit and industry specific forums showing up all over the place -More ads = organic results getting pushed down further and further -Softening demand (seeing it in B2B and consumer) Before you panic, here's what I'd do: Hop into Search Console and do a May YoY comparison. Find pages where you’re seeing the biggest decline in clicks and dig into which queries are driving the decrease. You might find that many of the terms where rankings dropped significantly (resulting in less clicks) have low relevance anyway and aren't important to win back. This happens a lot - your top pages will often rank for tons of irrelevant terms. At some point, Google figures it out and drops you for those terms. And, while I hate to admit it, they've actually gotten better at this with the last few major updates. But on pages with terms that are relevant, check out the SERPs. See what G is showing and try to reverse engineer what you could do to win back those spots. So while you might be seeing less overall traffic from search, the important thing will be maintaining and growing the good quality traffic you're getting.
