Happy Friday everyone! I am so so, honestly, so so so so sooooo happy to write something optimistic today. Let's talk about workforce housing, and how we can work and think collaboratively and creatively to land on some new solutions to this very challenging problem of how to house our workforce; how to tackle the problem of little 'a' affordable housing (housing that is 'a'ffordable to those who need it, where they need it) for those who are both too rich, and too poor for all of the other solutions that are tried and true. To address and discuss this important topic, I worked on an article with Bisnow.com in collaboration with Studio B, where we discuss (just) two forms of financing that states like Massachusetts (and beyond!) can use to help mitigate this shortage and spur material, significant, workforce housing development. These concepts are not simple (well, I'd argue that c. 59, s. 5O actually is quite simple and replicable), but they are possible, and they have been stress tested. There is a way forward here if the municipalities that need to house workers want to come to the table to work collaboratively with the developers who know how to build in this IN BETWEEN space. I was talking to the head of economic development for a metro-west city yesterday, and he told me that he has been calling up the largest employers in his city lately and asking them simply "how can we help?". This article provides two ideas for how. We can only control so much, so let's do this. Together. https://lnkd.in/e_k5XXhK

More and more employers that I talk to are interested in being part of the solution to Vermont's housing crisis after losing employers and prospects because housing is either too expensive or just not available. I am so excited that the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Solution's Summit: A Focus on Workforce, Seth Lenard will be presenting VHFA's BRAND NEW 🏘 Employer Assisted Housing Guide 🏘 !! This new guide provides actionable oppotunties for employers that want to be part of the housing solution to understand how they can most help their community build more units of housing. There are strategies for employers both big and small to get involved. There is still time to register and be the first to get insight into this new guide with Seth. https://lnkd.in/egr_A8BA

Why host a series to help stay-at-home parents get back to work⁉ Because this is a population of our workforce with phenomenal skills and responsibilities that would make an immediate impact within any business...but it's scary to have gaps on a resume. The reality is there are less humans entering our workforce because families are having less children or none at all. Couple that with so many people retiring, we have to relook at how we write job descriptions and the rate in which we create jobs. I believe businesses will be forced to look at creating special roles that accommodate stay-at-home parents and that also tap into a retired population. This will be one way that our small businesses can retain staffing and combat our ongoing workforce issues. That's why we should host a back to work series for stay-at-home parents. #worthingtonchamber #workforce #leadership
We're gathering input from stay-at-home parents looking to get back into the workforce. Please take this survey or share with someone you know. Please visit https://lnkd.in/g7y4y6PK Our goal is to host a future back to work series aimed at helping you! #worthingtonchamber #worthington #workforce

More than four years later, San Francisco is struggling to regain the jobs that were lost in the wake of the pandemic. The city, hit hard by remote work, tech layoffs and strict public health orders, had a labor force in the first quarter that was 7.3% below its 2019 levels, or more than 45,000 fewer jobs. Hearing this interesting fact at an FPA of the Triangle meeting a few months back, I remember thinking to myself, “I wonder why?”. Is it the quality of life, the nature of where nearly all jobs are headed, or simply the types of jobs that exist in this area. Either way, I think it’s fascinating to expore this new frontier and if you haven’t checked out Blush Cowork yet, here is your nudge! #remotework #coworkingspace #womencoworking
Did you know that, according to a 2024 article from SmartAsset, Cary has the largest remote workforce in the nation at 41.4%? Working remotely can be freeing, but it can also be lonely. Our members share that working at Blush helps them find their people while boosting their productivity. I just finished reading a thought-provoking piece by The Washington Post about Brookdale Senior Living's use of staffing algorithms. It got me thinking deeply about balancing technology and the human touch in the care we provide, especially in the senior living sector. I've seen firsthand the power of data and analytics, for good and ill. These tools can transform our work, making us smarter, faster, and more efficient. But, as this story underscores, when it comes to caring for our loved ones, there's a complexity that numbers and algorithms can't fully capture. My current role is strategic workforce planning and leveraging tech to attract the best talent. However, what's equally important to us is remembering that behind every data point is a person with their own stories, needs, and quirks. This belief has been a guiding star, helping us meet and exceed the care expectations of those we serve. Reading about the challenges and debates around staffing algorithms in assisted living facilities reminds me of the delicate balance we must strike. Yes, let's harness technology to make informed decisions. But let's also keep our hearts in the equation, ensuring our care remains personal, warm, and deeply human. I'd love to hear from you—how do you think we can blend the best of tech with the irreplaceable human element of healthcare? Any experiences or ideas you'd like to share would be fantastic.

There have been a lot of takes on migration patterns during/post COVID using different today. The #SFChroncile posted a new data tool using Internal Revenue Service data, which has is a good - if not complete — sample of households. Take a look at the data for #CookCounty and you will see it challenges some of the dominant narratives about where people are moving to and from. Most of our movement is within the region. For out-of-state moves, the most popular destination is NW Indiana - by far. Rather than Atlanta and Florida, we lose people to Texas, Arizona and the west coast. https://lnkd.in/gN9w-w7x
