Last week, I was attending another fruitful #GRSP meeting in the United Nations in Geneva. Several important regulatory proposals were adopted to which CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers has actively contributed: ✔ A proposal for a new UN Regulation on Safety-Belt Reminders. ✔ A proposal for a new UN Regulation on the Installation of safety belts, restraint systems, child restraint systems, ISOFIX child restraint systems and i-Size child restraint systems. ✔ A proposal for the 10 series of Amendments to UN Regulation 16 which will from now include only requirements for components type-approval. 👉 This is the result of splitting UN Regulation 16 into 3 UN Regulations separating components, installation and SBR requirements. ⚡ An amendment proposal to extend the scope of the UN Regulation 100 to vehicles of O categories with batteries which are charged by the vehicle’s e-axles. This is an important step forward to approve technical solutions developed by the suppliers to reduce CO2 emissions (e.g. battery systems supplying cooling units on trailers). 📃 The Terms of Reference for the Informal Working Group regarding the safety of Children Left in Vehicles (IWG CLIV) were endorsed. 💡 The ECE Road Safety Action Plan 2023-2030 that will contribute to achieving the global road safety target of a 50 percent reduction in road death and injuries was thoroughly discussed. GRSP had interesting exchanges with respect to the prospects for a #GTR on #CRS. Dinos Visvikis, Thomas Herpich, Ines Levallois, Thierry Mousel, Erik Salters, Marianne Le Claire, Kate Brown

🚗 Earlier this month, the 76th session of the GRSP (Working Party on Passive Safety) was held in Geneva. UTAC was part of the French delegation, along with DGEC, and had the chance to contribute to the discussions and improvements of passive safety regulations. 📝 Several regulations were amended, including UN Regulation No. 100 (Electric Power Trained Vehicles) with a new amendment on thermal propagation, and UN Regulation No. 17 (Strength of Seats) to improve the whiplash behavior of occupants of smaller stature. 🙋♀️ Interesting discussions were also held on the progress of Working Groups on Equitable Protection of Vehicle Occupants (IWG EqOP), on Children Left in Vehicles (IWG CLIV), and on Automated Vehicles Regulatory Screening (TF AVRS). 👏 My sincere thanks to the Chair and Vice-Chairs of GRSP, and to all the participants for the insightful exchanges. #UTAC #GRSP #UNECE #DGEC

This week, OICA participated to the 76th session of GRSP at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. GRSP is a subsidiary body of the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations, governing the construction of vehicles. GRSP focuses on aspects like the resistance to frontal impacts, safety of battery electric vehicles, child restraint systems, etc. At this 76th session, the major outcomes are: - General agreement to contribute to the improvement of provisions against thermal propagation in battery electric vehicles - Whiplash behaviour of occupants of smaller stature: express decision to avoid circumventing designs of the headrests - Review of all regulations under GRSP remit in the view to introducing Automated Vehicles in 2026. OICA is proud to have participated to this successful meeting and thanks the chairs and secretaries for their incessant commitment.

From individuals to organisations - this consultation and the outcome will be relevant to anyone designing, operating or maintaining sub 24 metre vessels. The clock is ticking to read and add comment...
A consultation has been launched by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for the new Vessels in Commercial Use for Sport or Pleasure Regulations 2025. These Regulations will underpin two codes of practice setting standards across the sector, for vessels below and above 24 metres in length. The 12 week consultation lasts from 4 December 2024 until 25 February 2025. The updates include important safety measures for small commercial vessels used for sport or pleasure, such as recommendations for the sector by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). They also provide an enabling regulatory framework for vessels using alternative fuel sources and propulsion types to help keep the UK at the forefront of decarbonising the shipping industry. The new Code of Practice better supports technological innovation and clarifies survey and inspection requirements for commercial owners and operators. This will result in some of the biggest changes for decades in the regulations for sub 24 metre vessels operating commercially in the UK in the sport and pleasure sector. Oy vey, I called the FMCSA CS number 5/21/2024 to ask whether or not inspections in Canada on US carriers appeared in CSA. I was told, "Yes inspections in Canada are reported to SMS and carriers may do DataQ challenges." 🙄 I also sent an email to the CSA team: Comments, suggestions, and/or questions - Do CVSA vehicle inspections in Canada go into MCMIS? Can carriers do DataQ challenges on Canada based inspections? Does Canada use the FMCSR e.g. Part 393.11 or does Canada have its own safety regulations? The response this AM says: Michael, Thank you for taking the time to submit your questions. Inspections performed in Canada are not included in MCMIS data. For that reason, you cannot use DataQs to request a review on these inspections since FMCSA does not have this information. As for Canadian Federal Requirements, there is information on this subject here: https://lnkd.in/gYe7DtfS CSA Team I will accept the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's CSA team that inspections from Canada do not appear in SMS/CSA. 😉 Happy Hump Day!

UPDATE on the issue of #ContainersOverboard from the International Maritime Organisation's CCC 10 meeting, held last week in London 📢 Item 11 of the the meeting was a "Review of current and future work of IMO to prevent the loss of containers at sea and to mitigate the impacts of such incidents" A working group was established and tasked with preparing an inventory of existing measures and new proposals under review at IMO, which are related to the prevention of the loss of containers at sea. Based on this inventory, a draft work plan was developed for the period 2024-2026. The final report and proposal will be submitted to MSC 111 in 2026. Progress is slow but the wheels are in motion... 🎡 📷 IMO/Flickr
