Trang Project
The team, Second Life, Second Life, and Wongpanit Krabi, Wongpanit Krabi CO., LTD. continue to collect waste from Ja Rea of Koh Mook at Khuan Tung Ku Pier. Koh Mook has no formal waste management system, forcing them to burn on site, making our collaboration with Second Life and Wongpanit Krabi vital to supporting the island. Together, we’re working to ensure that waste is responsibly collected and transformed into valuable resources rather than harming the environment.

💫Tomorrow is "Loy Krathong day", Thailand's traditional festival celebrated on the full moon night of November. We will float decorated Krathongs on the river to apologize to the spirits who protect the river for our past mistakes and the waste we've released into the water🌊🌺.
🌿🌺Here are 4 simple ways to help protect our environment during Loy Krathong :
1️⃣Use natural, biodegradable materials to make your Krathong.
2️⃣Avoid materials that decompose slowly, are difficult to clean up, and pollute the water.
3️⃣Join together and float one Krathong as a group, or choose a smaller Krathong to reduce waste.
4️⃣Float a Krathong online to reduce crowding and waste at festival sites.
🌿These small steps can make a big difference in protecting our planet🌏.

🌍 Spotlight on The E-Waste Capital 🌍
Guiyu, China, has garnered global attention as one of the largest e-waste dumping sites in the world. Situated in Guangdong Province, this city has become a symbol of the environmental and health challenges posed by improper e-waste disposal and recycling.
💻 Every year, Guiyu receives enormous quantities of electronic waste from across the globe. This influx has led to severe pollution, with toxic substances like lead, mercury, and cadmium contaminating the air, water, and soil. The health risks to the local population are significant, with many suffering from ailments related to this pollution.
🌱 While efforts are being made to address these issues, Guiyu remains a stark reminder of the global challenges associated with electronic waste management. It's a call to action for improved e-waste policies and sustainable practices worldwide.
Let's work together to create a cleaner, healthier planet before Guiyu becomes our Future. 🌏💚

Thanks to Violy Purnamasari, today I learnt that today marks the 19th year of Indonesia's Waste Awareness Day.
It's a somber reminder of the tragic event that unfolded in Leuwigajah, where a methane explosion, caused by improper waste management, claimed the lives of 157 people from two villages.
This day serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship. Let's honour this day by committing to better waste-handling practices, promoting a circular economy, and raising awareness about the impact of waste on our communities.
Does your country have a similar day of waste awareness? #WasteAwareness#EnvironmentalStewardship
Today is the Indonesia’s Waste Awareness Day aka Hari Peduli Sampah Nasional. We shall not forget the history why it was “celebrated”. It was a history of mismanaged landfill, lost of 100 lives, and disappearance of two villages.
“Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it”

♻️Expanding Environmental Efforts in Barangay Addition Hills! 🤝
We are thrilled to announce the expansion of Barangay Addition Hills' environmental initiatives in Mandaluyong City. Building on the success of their ongoing plastic sachet collection program, we are now integrating the collection of used beverage cartons (UBCs).
On July 26th, 2024, we celebrated a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to officially launch the UBC collection program. This initiative aims to further reduce waste and enhance recycling practices within the community. With the support of 111 registered Barangay Accredited Waste Collectors, we are committed to making a significant impact. To ensure smooth operations, Tetra Pak has generously provided uniforms for all collectors, and Berdeng Kalabaw will handle the logistics.
Key highlights of the program include:
-Broadened Recycling Scope: Adding UBCs to the existing recycling efforts to address a wider range of waste.
-Community Engagement: Continuously raising awareness about the importance of recycling and responsible waste management.
-Enhanced Efficiency: Integrating UBC collection into the monthly exchange program to streamline processes.
This initiative represents a significant step towards a more sustainable Barangay Addition Hills. Together, we are setting a model for other communities to follow in the journey towards environmental sustainability.

Circular Economy and Beyond:
Underway under the Selangor Maritime Gateway initiative, is a sorting facility in collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup, that seeks to minimise waste to landfills while increasing recycling of the floating trash extracted from the Klang River.
The Ocean Cleanup is also looking to deploy some 20 Malaysian-made Interceptors around the world next year, including right here on other rivers in Selangor and across Malaysia. Beyond the Interceptors, we are also looking at other solutions to further improve the Klang River. So, look out for these news!
Our collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup that started in 2019, exemplifies how local actions can contribute to global outcomes. The vision is clear: to turn polluted rivers into clean, life-sustaining waterways.
Catch the full discussion by CNA on our revitalisation efforts, originally aired on 9 August 2024 - (https://lnkd.in/gbgzAN8S). Thank you Melissa Goh, Boyan Slat and the team at The Ocean Cleanup.

Waste to energy plants do not cause pollution they are an essential as part of the circular economy - at the very end
The world produces over 2 billion tons of waste annually
There are 48,000 landfills across the globe which pollute the environment, spread diseases and are a huge liability for governments.
Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plants have been around since the 70's, but have been dramatically improved in terms of efficiency and environmental impact. Technology differs depending on the Waste Characteristics.
Modern waste incinerators, with high-tech exhaust-gas cleaning, diverts municipal solid waste from being landfilled into electricity and avoids methane gasses (28x more potent than C02) from landfills and avoids (groundwater) pollution.
There are over 2,700 waste-to-energy plants operating worldwide, with the capacity to dispose of roughly 530 million tons of waste annually.
More than 80% of these plants are located in developed nations.
Nearly 500 waste-to-energy plants are situated in Europe.
Japan has 380 waste-to-energy plants and its one of the cleanest places on earth.
There are efficient and effective, sustainable solutions for the high humidity and high organic content waste of the developing countries. There are attractive business opportunities so the Private Investors need to stand-up and fit these solutions in there ESG plans.
We need to build more waste-to-energy plants to clean up the planet, to avoid wasting energy by landfilling and assist in reduction of fossil fuels!
