I've spent a major portion of the last 2.5 years sending out many job applications to many different companies (sometimes even to the same company advertising for the same position). And yes, I suppose now that I think about it, it doesn't seem suspicious because it's impossible that they spend a year searching for a candidate and cannot find one that fits the requirements. That is just something that doesn't really make any sense to me. Speaking as a job seeker that I was, I totally understand the frustration that other job seekers might feel when they keep sending out applications but never hear back. Why are companies choosing to do something like this? While we can never control what companies will do, as job seekers, I think we can learn to be wiser and also make sure that we don't waste too much time and energy on job applications that might turn out to be fake ads. One of the easiest identifiers is to look at when the job ad was first posted. But this is not something that is always immediately clear. I've witnessed job ads that were fairly new, but over time, they would get reposted again and again and again. Now, if companies are thinking of hiring multiple people to fill a specific role/position, I recommend stating it clearly in their job descriptions (e.g. we are currently trying to fill 3 positions for this role...). That way, at least the candidates will know they are competing for certain roles that they are applying to. Also, this way, it would help to filter away the fake job ads. When companies write down how many they are looking to hire, it would be more obvious that the ads are real because the number of open positions should be reduced. I considered myself really blessed and fortunate that after persevering for more than two years, I was able to finally land the job/career that I had been working towards for such a long time. Yet it is not lost on me that many fellow job seekers might still be struggling right now. And my empathy goes out to them. My only encouragement for my fellow job seekers is not to give up. Maybe keep a note and write down all the companies/jobs that you have come across, and roles you have already applied to before. If the role/position is still open 6 months later, you'd know that there is something fishy about the job ad.
