Our Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub has reached a significant construction milestone with 100% of the 444 battery units now in place. These units form three giant battery components that will deliver 1.6 gigawatt hours of energy storage when they come online next year. That’s enough energy to power 200,000 homes during peak periods, adding critical storage to Victoria’s electricity grid. In 2023 Transsolar encountered this barrier in a variety of contexts. In this paper Erik Olsen and Konstantin Bausch share their learnings about the state of the market, especially the lack of market products for high-impact renewable energy products at small or medium scale (0.1 - 5 MW). They briefly describe potential policy and market solutions to filling this void before sharing case studies of owners encountering this barrier.
