In Part 2 of the FleetOwner article, Selerix Vice President of Business Development, Jasper Purvis, discusses how communication will greatly benefit both drivers and managers, beyond the hiring process. For example, when open enrollment time comes around, for drivers that experience a life-changing event, “those are the points in your life where those benefits are most important, and we don't do a very good job at talking to (the employee) when the employee needs it.” https://lnkd.in/ea8E5WU5 #trucking #driverrecruitment #openenrollment #employeebenefits

Are you struggling to retain company drivers? A recent visit to a local TL carrier revealed that they were using temp drivers due to an extremely high turnover rate with their employee drivers. But here's the thing: there is not a driver shortage for local drivers. If you need drivers, you can hire from your competitors! To address this issue, it's time to evaluate your recruiting department, media spend, and pay. Consider other avenues for hiring drivers, such as women, veterans, and students from CDL schools. And don't forget to hire driver trainers to work with them. To ensure that your drivers not only meet your hiring standards but also stick around, use Star Behaviors, LLC. By cutting down on your turnover rate, you'll save money and have all company drivers in your equipment for the long haul. Keep on truckin'!

What causes driver turnover? There isn't one single answer to the source of driver turnover, but there are common themes. To begin to understand turnover, it's important for fleets to distinguish between causes at different stages of a driver's tenure. As with any large problem, it's best to tackle it one step at a time. In our experience, these are some of the easiest common causes of turnover by driver tenure for fleets to fix: Pre-hire · Lack of communication · Unaddressed concerns The First 30 Days · Equipment or schedule issue as first impression · Misunderstood payroll · Benefits misunderstanding or registration problem Later in the First Year · Unmet or undefined expectations · Cultural misfit (or no culture at all) · Recurring equipment or scheduling problem Systematically eliminating these issues will make a big impact on your turnover. For our clients, we start here for quick wins while we implement a more complex system that consistently engages drivers and pushes turnover even lower.
