Our new Heterogenous Adaptively Produced Photonic Interfaces (HAPPI) program sees light as the ideal carrier of information and looks to bump up information movement density within a microsystem via #photonic signaling. To achieve disruptive increase in photonic link density, the program will work on developing 3D optical routing within the photonic chip and between chips, allowing 3D stacking through advanced optical packaging. With HAPPI technologies, our goal is to enable very-large scale integrated (VLSI) photonic circuits with thousands of components to directly impact both commercial and defense applications. These circuits could deliver disruptive advances for signal processing, compact sensors, microwave applications, and quantum systems.
