Multiculturalism is a foundational part of Australia's national identity. As our nation evolves, so too must our approach to multiculturalism, that is why I welcome this much needed reset to our multicultural framework. By making these changes, we can ensure that multiculturalism and our multicultural policies reflect the Australia of this century, not the last.
We welcome the release of the Multicultural Framework Review which sets a progressive vision for a strong, multicultural Australia. This review drew on the voices of thousands of Australians to undertake the first comprehensive review of multicultural policy in Australia in more than 50 years. In December 2023, we were part of joint advocacy led by the FECCA (Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia) and more than 80 other community organisations that recommended these changes so that multicultural Australia is fit for purpose for the 21st century. We look forward to working with the Federal Government, communities and our peers in the community sector to implement this progressive vision. Read SSI's full release: https://lnkd.in/gekZG8_E

This year’s theme “Now More Than Ever” is a reminder that the fight for justice and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will continue! Here’s how you as a migrant can offer your support: 1️⃣ As immigrants in Australia, we can start by learning about the First Australians. There are many resources available online to learn about the history and culture of the First Nations people. 2️⃣ We can start having conversations around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia (FECCA) published a guide for migrants titled “Encouraging Engagement: A Guide for Multicultural Organisations to Engage in Reconciliation”. The document provides a starting point for conversations during and beyond National Reconciliation Week. 3️⃣ Do something that is meaningful to you during Reconciliation Week or for reconciliation. Share it on social media or talk about it with your friends and family. Dm or comment to get the link for the FECCA guide.

'Culture wars’ are shrill conflicts between different social groups struggling to politically or otherwise impose their own ideology on the rest of society. In Canada, current culture wars have been largely fought between what can be termed “cultural socialists” — those prioritizing equal results and protection from emotional harm for minority groups — and both cultural liberals and conservatives, citizens who cherish free speech, objective truth, personal responsibility, equal opportunity and patriotism. Read below how this is playing out in the realm of indigenous issues.
