🌱 Last week, Sébastien Le Roy, Partner at Serena, shared the stage with Célia SENGER-LOUAISIL (Comète), Marion de Robillard (Qonto), Sarah Huet (AFemaleAgency)an d Stephanie Leblanc (Swile), to discuss impact and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) as catalysts for change in the tech world. Thanks to all for this insightful conversation! 🔑 Main takeaways: 🤝 Sébastien showcased how venture capital, through partnerships like the one we formed with makesense (through Racine²), is pivotal in funding businesses that merge profitability with social and environmental solutions. 🦄 The adoption of technology for ESG is crucial for sustainable development. Tech companies like Swile are central to this. The concept of "impact unicorns" demonstrates how to integrate impact from inception, making it essential to the business model and value proposition. 📈 Stephanie from Swile illustrated how ESG initiatives, driven by regulatory and consumer pressures, are central to a company's competitiveness, branding, and sustainable development. 🚀 Qonto has integrated ESG principles into its strategy by establishing internal ESG governance and an impact committee. Attention to employees and investors' demand for clear ESG reporting and sustainable practices has also driven this shift. 👫 Célia from Cometh highlighted the role of gender diversity in enhancing corporate governance and competitiveness, showing the strategic advantage of feminizing executive committees. 📸 Photo : Sophie Derrien

🌱 Thrilled to have pitched at the TechHub.K67 pitch session in my hometown, Düsseldorf! It’s amazing to see the startup scene thriving here and the spotlight on innovative ideas shaping the future. Huge thanks to K67 Techhub for organizing such a fantastic event and bringing together founders, investors, and changemakers. At Empacto, we focus on helping sustainability teams tackle one of their biggest challenges: sharing tailored sustainability knowledge at scale. Why is this so critical? 🌍 Evolving regulations and different regulations globally make compliance a moving target, and generic solutions no longer cut it. 🤝 Corporate commitments like net-zero goals need deep alignment across the value chain. 💡 Consumer are becoming more aware and critical -> Companies need tailored strategies to highlight how their efforts connect to real-world impact. These pressures are growing—and so is the opportunity to drive meaningful change with the right tools. Here’s to pushing boundaries and building solutions that matter! 💚

Guess I’m a bit late to share, but the IMPACT FESTIVAL was too good not to talk about! 🌍 Ever wondered how we can collectively shape a sustainable future? 🍀 Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of joining the Impact Festival in Frankfurt - one of Europe’s largest events for sustainable innovation and investments, with over 5000 participants from business, politics and academics. Being among professionals dedicated to improving our society and planet was truly inspiring. There was so much to learn, with deep dives into critical topics like biodiversity, the circular economy, sustainable cities, and even the complexities of ESG data. I found the panel discussion "Beyond Growth - Redefining Prosperity for the Future" with Carlos Alvarez Pereira, Agata Meysner, Prof. Dr. Stephan Hankammer and Fabian Eckert especially thought-provoking. They unpacked the need for new definitions of prosperity in a world where growth needs to align with environmental and social goals. For this, we need new ideas and technologies by companies that take responsibility. Still, to bring these ideas to life, it takes visionary minds backed by private capital. This was why I found the sessions on impact investing so engaging, especially hearing from VCs on the role of sustainability in financial markets for startups: 💡Impact-focused startups don't really differ from traditional ones: they need a strong team, a smart business plan, and to solve real problems. 📈With today's global challenges, startups that tackle societal and environmental issues have the potential to drive economic growth as well as positive impact. 🌿Purely purpose-driven startups may struggle to secure traditional VC funding but can explore alternative financing to bring their ideas to life. TechQuartier‘s Impact Challenge was a good example for bridging the gap between startups and corporates, empowering sustainable and innovative solutions for a greener, more social tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how all of these ideas evolve and impact our collective future! 🌱 Btw proud to work at PwC Deutschland, as strategic partner of the festival, who actively support such important conversations and driving sustainable innovation forward. #ImpactFestival24 #Sustainability

🌍 When I heard about measuring ESG for my startup, I have to admit, I was full of doubts... As a tech startup founder, it didn’t seem like a top priority for a company of our size. 🤔 Then, I started to dig deeper. I had insightful conversations and began to see the bigger picture. It became clear that integrating ESG isn’t just for large corporations—it’s relevant for smaller companies too. 💡 Warning: it's not easy because many questions that were asked me don't really resonate with our current activity (for example, being in a shared office with the dualoop team, we're not able to measure our water consumption, and you get negative points for that). During this journey, I discovered that even small actions can have significant impact. These efforts align with the values we hold dear at Novable, and we’re excited about the positive change we can drive. 🌱 💡 Tip: What made the difference for us at Novable? Good governance with an Advisory Board from day 1, diversity in our Board of Directors, getting rid of company cars, the deeply embedded process for fighting gender pay gaps, and also an indirect and huge benefit: 66% of the activities at Novable are about helping our clients meet their ESG criteria! Today, I’m extremely proud to share that Novable received an Exemplarity Award on ESG criteria! 🏆 This recognition means a lot to us, as it reflects our commitment to making a difference, completely in line with our values. A big thank you to Alexis Malherbe and Quentin Stevenart from finance&invest.brussels for the initial push, Grégoire Talbot from D-Carbonize for the insightful discussions, and Constance d'Aspremont from Greenomy for her invaluable support. 🙏 And we'll continue the journey as Delphine Godfriaux and Jonathan Baeyens organize more of this at hub.brussels very soon! On our way to building a more sustainable future, one step at a time! 🚀 #ESG #Sustainability #StartupLife #ProudMoment at Novable

#esg #vc practitioners and all of you who are curious to learn more from peers about the integration of ESG into mainstream VC - please join us for FRAME - our first conference in London on September 19th. See you there! Hannah Leach Johannes Lenhard VentureESG Pitango
For the past three years we at VentureESG have been bringing our community and members together, to exchange ideas, knowledge, to bitch 'n moan ('ESG therapy'), to dispel myths, to hear from experts, to learn - through a variety of online events, sessions, working groups, AMAs, 1:1 peer calls, monthly breakfasts, roundtables, dinners, drinks, panels. The works. Last year we hosted 64 'events', and this year we're on track for about a slightly-bananas 100 (Johannes and I joke that we've morphed into pseudo event organisers...) But it's proving incredibly valuable - wherever our community are in the world, they're all facing similar ESG challenges, opportunities, and the best learning happens through this trusted ecosystem that we and our members have been able to create and nurture. One thing we haven't yet been able to do is bring our global community together, in-person, and that is EXACTLY what we're doing this year. On 19th September, we host our first ever conference for the VC and LP community - FRAME - here in London, which will be a day of learning, debate, discussion, inspiration (and fun, we hope). It's very much a community-led initiative - with our members hosting, speaking and moderating, and we're being supported by some fantastic sponsors, including White & Case LLP, Nasdaq, Base10 Partners, Dasseti, Google Cloud, BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt, Atomico, HV Capital, Cusp Capital, The Westly Group, Apiday, Novata, Kara, Metric If you're a VC, or LP, and interested in what's currently happening or the direction of travel for responsible investment in the VC industry, globally - the macro trends, the very practical considerations - we'll cover it all - find out more and register your interest in joining at https://lnkd.in/g95j9ifx, or drop us a note at hello@ventureesg.com. We have a bunch of fantastic speakers and attendees confirmed to date, with more to come...
