When people think about Chinese urbanisation, they picture this 👇. Is this the right way to view China? 🇨🇳 Beyond first-tier cities lies the real China. 🇨🇳 Their stories offer deep insights into China. 🇨🇳 Let's explore the vibrant life and culture there. 🇨🇳 'Ordinary' cities offer authentic life experiences. 🇨🇳 It's about recognising life's diversity across China. 🇨🇳 Honouring the lives contributing to China's narrative. 🇨🇳 "Ordinary cities" vs "world cities" isn't just academic. 🇨🇳 We should belooking closer at ordinary cities #jilin etc 🇨🇳 This enriches our understanding of China's heartland. 🇨🇳 Discussions highlight the need to focus on these areas. #China #Urbanisation #Culture #Education Cyrus Janssen 王德中 William Vanbergen Charlie Nunn Arnold Ma Vincent PHANG

This is one of the things that surprises me the most about China. Especially because it is one of the things I have a hard time understanding. During these last years, I have been able to grasp the surface of the millenary Chinese culture. I have seen how the country, in its different phases of construction, has contributed to the world at a philosophical, cultural, and architectural level, as well as the advances and discoveries that have come out of it. And yet, there happens to be a large number of cities in China that seem to imitate other cultural paradigms, many times with less history than its own. I also see this in my own country and, in general, throughout Europe. Do we need to copy those other paradigms in order not to be left out of the “modern”? Or should we focus on revitalizing and refreshing our heritage to look and learn from within and step on our own identity? I am delighted to announce that my book on China was published just a few days ago. The work is thoughtfully structured into four distinct parts: The First Part traces the rich history of China's ancient kingdoms, spanning over 3,500 years, and culminating in the ascent of Mao Zedong to power in 1949. The Second Part explores the darkest chapters of Mao's rule, delving into his capricious and often destructive policies, which led to the loss of millions of lives. This section concludes with his death in 1976. The Third Part examines China’s astonishing transformation into an economic superpower, a rise that initially left the world in awe. However, this sense of wonder quickly turned to alarm as the true extent of China’s global ambitions became evident—through its Belt and Road Initiative, which some view as a "debt trap," and its rapidly advancing artificial intelligence agenda. The Fourth Part shifts focus to India, addressing the four major challenges posed by China: ideological, diplomatic, military, and economic. The book has garnered highly positive reviews from esteemed authors, specialists in Chinese affairs, and distinguished diplomats, including member of the Indian Foreign Service and former Indian Ambassador to key countries. I must, however, acknowledge that for many of my friends here, this announcement may hold limited relevance, as the book is written in my mother tongue, Marathi. For those who share this linguistic heritage or can read Marathi, the book is available for purchase online at www.shreeramkunte.com. I sincerely hope that the insights within will prove valuable to those keen on understanding the complex dynamics of China's geopolitics, threats to India and its growing influence in the world.

China is a huge country, and it can be difficult to know exactly where to go to make the most of your trip. There are plenty of popular landmarks such as the Great Wall of China that you could visit, but many of the best places in China are some of the lesser-known cities. Not only are these cities wonderful places to see, but you’ll find that they are just as awe-inspiring as the more well-known cities in China. I am in China, a land of ancient charm and modern vitality. Here, history and innovation blend seamlessly. Majestic mountains, like the Himalayas, stand as silent guardians, while vast rivers, such as the Yangtze and Yellow River, flow ceaselessly, telling tales of centuries past. The bustling cities are a testament to China's rapid development. Skyscrapers reach for the clouds, and advanced transportation systems connect people from all corners of the country. The vibrant street life is filled with delicious aromas from local food stalls and the sounds of laughter and conversation. China is also a nation rich in culture. Traditional art forms like calligraphy, painting, and opera are still cherished and passed down through generations. Festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm, bringing people together in a spirit of joy and unity. From the serene landscapes of rural areas to the dynamic urban landscapes, being in China is an experience like no other. It's a place where one can explore the depths of history, embrace the wonders of nature, and witness the remarkable progress of a great nation.
