Congresswoman Lori Trahan visited Seven Hills Pediatric Center on Monday. She had a tour and the opportunity to meet some of the children that reside at the Center. In addition to meeting with Kathee Jordan, President and CEO of Seven Hills Foundation, and Bill Stock, VP of Government and Community Relations, she also had the chance to interact with Joe Allred, Sr. VP of Children’s Services and Holly Jarek, Interim Administrator, as well as other members of the pediatric center’s staff. The visit gave those working at SHPC to thank the Congresswoman for all her support in Medicaid funding. During the visit it was noted that staffing was at its highest level in many years primarily because of that support.

💙 Thank you to the Caring Foundation of Texas and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for organizing an exceptional event this past Sunday. All proceeds from the event were directed towards funding life-saving preventive healthcare initiatives provided by CFT. I would also like to express my gratitude to my BCBSTX colleague and friend, Miss Lorrie Lacko, for inviting me to be a part of this meaningful occasion and for facilitating my involvement with this remarkable foundation. Numerous families throughout Texas encounter obstacles in accessing the preventive healthcare they require. These challenges often include financial constraints, transportation issues, and lack of time. Women and children are disproportionately affected by these barriers. The Caring Foundation of Texas addresses these challenges by collaborating with organizations, educational institutions, non-profits, and government entities to bring medical services directly into communities where they are needed most. This initiative enables many adults and children to obtain essential preventive care necessary for leading healthy, fulfilling lives. Preventive healthcare is vital for laying a strong health foundation for our children's futures. CFT passionately advocates for community service and strives to provide preventive healthcare resources across our regions. If you wish to support CFT’s efforts, please contact their headquarters in Richardson at: 🧡 Caring Foundation of Texas 💚 1001 E. Lookout Drive Richardson, TX 75082 (866) 806-SHOTS (7468) https://lnkd.in/gwdjF-7Q All services offered by the Texas Care Van program are free for those who qualify. Since its inception in 1997, over 1.4 million immunizations have been administered to more than 2.5 million individuals, along with over 450,000 dental services provided to children since 2008. 💙 #healthcare #texas

Looking for an organization to give back to for Giving Tuesday? Let me introduce you to an organization that’s near to our heart: the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA). Our son Weston was born with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and will one day need a life-saving kidney transplant. But don’t let the medical terms worry you—this kid is unstoppable. Weston’s the kid climbing the walls, leaping off ledges, and pestering his siblings like it’s his full-time job. (He also holds the family record for ER trips- mostly unrelated to his diagnosis. FEARLESS child.) Ask Weston what makes him awesome, and CKD wouldn’t even get a mention. He’s way too busy being a "real" soccer player, dreaming of driving monster trucks, and playing with his family and friends. Weston’s zest for life is as big as his hugs, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s why COTA means so much to us. When families partner with COTA, the patient gains a lifetime of support. Funds raised through COTA campaigns help cover transplant-related expenses (and all those extra medical curveballs life throws at us). Wherever families are on their transplant journey, COTA has their back. So, if you’re looking for a way to make a difference this Giving Tuesday, why not support an organization that helps kids like Weston keep being their amazing, rule-breaking, boundary-pushing, lovable selves? You can give in honor of Weston Whitlock at this link: https://lnkd.in/g8wyHKtF #WhyCOTA #GivingTuesday #TransplantJourney #TransplantFundraising

For today’s #55for55 feature, we’re taking a closer look at the SDMC: 🌟 Empowering Seniors Through Advocacy: The Surrogate Decision Making Committee (SDMC) 🌟 At EAC Network, we believe every individual deserves dignity, respect, and proper care, regardless of their physical or mental capacity. That’s why our Surrogate Decision Making Committee (SDMC) ensures informed, compassionate medical decisions for those in need throughout New York City, Long Island, and Rockland County. 🤝 The Problem: Individuals unable to provide informed consent due to physical or mental challenges can be easily taken advantage of and may be at risk of receiving improper care. 💡 Our Solution: The SDMC coordinates hearings for non-emergency medical and dental treatment for these individuals, advocates for their best medical interests, and provides a timely, person-centered approach that’s cost-free and easy to access. ✔️ How It Works: A four-member panel consisting of an attorney, medical professional, family member, and an advocate, ensures: 1️ Dignity and participation in the hearings for the patient 2️ Timely access to hearings and major medical treatment 3️ Life-changing outcomes through appropriate medical interventions 📈 The Impact: Through SDMC, at-risk individuals gain access to timely care and a team dedicated to protecting their rights and well-being. It's a process rooted in compassion and empowerment, ensuring that every person’s voice is heard. #EACNetwork #55for55 #GivingTuesday #December3 #55yearsofEAC #Seniors #dontforgetourseniors #AdvocacyMatters #SeniorCare #CompassionInAction To donate and learn more in honor of Giving Tuesday, visit: https://hubs.ly/Q02ZJyLb0 This Giving Tuesday, on December 3rd, EAC Network invites you to be part of our 55-year legacy of impact across New York City and Long Island! To mark this milestone, we’re launching our #55for55 Campaign, highlighting our senior programs. By donating $55, you can help us continue and expand our work from Staten Island to Montauk and all seven counties in between.

💓 We are proud to stand up for the 1 in 100 children worldwide who are born with congenital heart disease (CHD), totaling about 1.35 million children every year. Unfortunately, 90% of these children live in areas with limited access to cardiac care services — here’s how we’re working to change that! - Building local-level capacity for pediatric cardiac care through long-term partnerships and robust monitoring. - Optimizing patient care using education and a train-the-trainer model. - Advocating for better access to care with governments and stakeholders. - Sustaining access to quality care through Centers of Excellence. Our impact in 2023. Medical volunteers donated 5,100 hours to train over 4,800 local clinicians at 15 hospital partners. They, combined with 7 Children’s HeartLink Center of Excellence, served 196,000 children with CHD! Learn how we’re working to reach one million more children by 2030. https://lnkd.in/egVNFTFw #ChildrensHeartLink #UHC #CongenitalHeartDisease #GlobalHealth #UN #HealthCareAccess #HealthCareforAll

Meet Sam, a Certified Child Life Specialist. “I’m Sam. I currently work as a child life specialist on an inpatient unit primarily serving neurology, burn trauma, complex care, and cardiology pediatric patient populations. Child life is so important for children’s health because it caters to the uniqueness of the medical experience on a child’s overall well-being. Child life considers the impact hospitalization has not only on physical health but on children’s development and emotional health too. Child life supports, empowers, and encourages children. Organizations like enCourage Kids work hard to provide resources for families and hospital programs across the country which transform the patient experience. Utilizing Teddy, or other stuffed animals with patients is powerful. Stuffed animals are non-threatening and help with normalization. Stuffed animals can be used for play and comfort, but also teaching. I use stuffed animals to help patients understand various procedures. Using stuffed animals has allowed patients to show their understanding, ask questions, and express their emotions.” To support child life specialists like Sam and the hospitalized children they serve, donate today. https://lnkd.in/e9v4u2UX #childllifemonth #childrenshealth #childlifespecialist #childrenshospital #encouragekids #playtherapy

MercyOne is closing its gynecologic oncology surgical services this summer, forcing patients to seek alternatives. Starting June 1, The Iowa Clinic becomes the only nearby provider, with the next option in Iowa City. This situation stems from restrictive laws that hinder medical operations and deter healthcare professionals from practicing in Iowa. The Iowa Clinic is already facing an influx of patients and challenges in hiring new specialists. The consequences are severe: decreased access to specialized care, longer patient wait times, and increased travel for treatment. These aren't just bureaucratic issues—they're barriers to essential healthcare. 📢 Call to Action: We must push for policy changes that support healthcare systems and allow doctors to work freely. Join us in advocating for reforms that ensure everyone in Iowa has timely access to the medical care they need. https://lnkd.in/g4nk3rek #IA4HL #Iowans4HealthLiberty #HealthcareFreedom #ReproductiveRights #abortionishealthcare #abortionrights #WomensRights #Donate #JoinUs

Early Detection of Vision Impairments in Children (EDVI) Act Early intervention is a critical pillar of our Journey of Care™ at Beyond Blindness. We are excited to celebrate the introduction of a landmark bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that will establish grants for states and communities to improve children's vision and eye health through a coordinated system of care. Called the Early Detection of Vision Impairments in Children (EDVI) Act, it aims to ensure all children will receive screening and care that will help overcome any obstacles and delays caused by a visual impairment. While there are several public health programs that offer support for other areas of pediatric health, this will be the first federally funded program addressing vision and equitable eye care for children. As a leader in early intervention for Orange County children with visual impairments and other disabilities, we believe this is an important step forward in delivering quality care to every family in need. It will not only provide more opportunities for early detection of vision concerns, but also reduce disparities in eye health and remove barriers to care that will put infants and toddlers on the path to achieving their fullest potential. For more information about Beyond Blindness' early intervention services, visit https://lnkd.in/gAZQ5ve4 or email Irene Takahashi at irene.takahashi@beyondblindness.org. #BeyondBlindness #OCNonprofit #EarlyDetection #EDVIAct
