Aurora Sustainable Lands has done an excellent job showcasing the importance of carbon credits and how they are used to enhance forest land management. Take a deeper look at what carbon credits are, how they are developed, and the advanced land management that occurs on carbon offset properties. These properties are not only valuable to the landowner, but also to the general public and our efforts to combat climate change.
A lot goes into managing forests for carbon sequestration. From carbon inventory plotting to tree measurements and ecosystem management (and much more!), we believe in keeping our strategies transparent to help set the standard for highly reliable, durable, and quality carbon credits. Excited to share about the work we’ve been doing through Kealakekua Carbon Forward (KCF) to advance sustainable native forest management and (through economies of scale) assist non-industrial private forestland owners access carbon markets - an important segment for carbon sequestration that has been largely underrepresented in voluntary carbon markets. Initial projects are on the island of Hawai’i (Big Island) but preparing to branch out elsewhere. KCF seeks to solve challenges and remove barriers to entry for small forestland owners’ participation in carbon projects, by reducing costs and easing the complexity of participation - helping forestland owners to transition to long-term, sustainable forest management and access other technical assistance and even conservation-focused grant funding. Today, we celebrate the beauty and richness of our environment while reflecting on the urgent need for action. Our planet is our home, and it’s up to us to protect it! At Jani Maps, we believe in the power of maps to tell the untold stories of our environment. Every map tells the story of a landscape. Its beauty, challenges, and opportunities. As we mark Mazingira Day, let's remember that each of us has a role in preserving and nurturing our environment. Let’s make more sustainable choices, plant trees, reduce waste, and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet. On this Day, let’s commit to taking better care of our environment for future generations. Together, we can chart a sustainable course for the future!
