💫 Spotlight 💫 on a Transformation Leader 📣 Name: Bonolo Zwane Title: Founder Director of Nje Brand Pty Ltd African country represented: South Africa Initiatives to bring attention to: Given my two decade experience in investments within the corporate sector, I'd like to shine a light on how blended funding can be considered and modelled for emerging businesses that are on a path to scale. South Africa has reasonably mature, innovative and accessible funding solutions for sub-scale and growing businesses. Yet often as business people or leaders we tend to think of 'either or solutions' to funding; for example smaller pockets of working capital vs substantial longer term money, as opposed to how different types of funding can be blended together in line with the cycle that the business is in. This also implies that it's helpful that as business owners we appreciate the things and language that will appeal to the respective and different funders. Transformational leadership to Bonolo: It means a number of things for me which I sometimes still battle to prioritize in my mind. Especially with the reality of limited resources such as time, energy and money. In my experience, I've seen that to transform for the better it benefits one to somehow build the mental capacity in themselves to be pragmatic about the current state of a business while at the same time challenging ourselves to think about future prospects that importantly, can be executed in a way that can easily leverage or extend the current state of the business. That way it tends to feel a little less daunting to balance current and future priorities because for most business leaders, 'undoing' substantial pieces in their organisation is not appealing or even practical - notwithstanding the cherry dangling in terms of the future.

Our attendance at this masterclass about corporate governance was a key highlight of the urgent need for SMEs and startups like us to embrace sustainable business practices instead of looking at it as a cost. M/S Joseline Kateeba's well-articulated message was clear enough for us to weigh the consequences of not having proper company structures in place. Isaac Kiwanda, Jessica Busingye

Leadership: Where Art, Science, and Craft Converge In the interesting world of African business, I would like to believe that leadership is evolving into a powerful blend of art, science, and craft. This week, we explore this powerful triad in the latest edition of Africa Business Insights. 🔹 The Art of Leadership: It’s about inspiring vision and creativity. Great leaders are storytellers who connect on an emotional level, rallying their teams around a shared mission. 🔹 The Science of Leadership: Data-driven decision-making is key. African leaders are harnessing technology and analytics to make informed choices and drive innovation in a rapidly changing landscape. 🔹 The Craft of Leadership: Skillful execution and adaptability are essential. Leaders must translate vision and data into actionable plans, navigating complexities with precision. One shining example is the late Bob Collymore, former CEO of Safaricom. His leadership seamlessly integrated visionary thinking, data-driven insights, and practical execution, leaving a lasting legacy of financial success and social innovation with initiatives like M-Pesa. The late former South African President, Nelson Mandela embodied the art of leadership through his ability to inspire and unite people with his powerful vision of a racially harmonious South Africa, using empathy and storytelling to connect emotionally with diverse groups. He applied the science of leadership by strategically analyzing political landscapes and leveraging negotiations to dismantle apartheid, making informed decisions that were rooted in a deep understanding of social dynamics. Mandela’s leadership craft was evident in his practical execution of policies and adaptability, skillfully navigating the complexities of transitioning a nation towards democracy with precision and resilience. As African leaders continue to shape the continent’s future, mastering this triad of leadership will be crucial. Join the Africa Business Inc team, and the Sunday Mail for in depth Africa Business Insights on how we can champion a new era of leadership in Africa—one that values humility, collaboration, and continuous improvement. "Strategy" - a word often used, rarely understood. 🤔 While "strategy" is one of the most frequently used terms in business, it's also one of the most ambiguous. Dunn Mukosa, the managing partner of BI Technologies Africa offers a fresh perspective. He defines it as a foresight action plan that leverages the organization's strengths and opportunities, helping the organization beat the market, sustainably, while creating shared value. This definition challenges us to think beyond short-term gains. It emphasizes: • Foresight: Looking ahead, not just reacting • Leveraging strengths: Building on what you do best • Beating the market: Outperforming competitors • Sustainability: Long-term success, not short-term gains • Shared value: Benefiting all stakeholders, not just shareholders The attached framework simplifies this powerful idea into a clear visual, perfect for any leader looking to make a meaningful difference. If you’re looking to craft a strategy that captures this essence, BI Technologies Africa’s team of experts is here to help. Don’t hesitate to reach out for bespoke business advisory services designed to elevate your strategy. #BITechAfrica #DigitalTransformation #AfroCentric #BusinessStrategy #Leadership #SustainableSuccess
