Loaves & Fishes tackles two problems with one solution. The local nonprofit operates as a food rescue, collecting excess food from grocery stores and other sites to deliver to over 100 agencies that help those in need. This process aims to eliminate food waste while addressing food insecurity in Greenville County. “At the end of the day, it’s moving surplus food from where it’s not needed to where it is needed,” said Tessa May, executive director of Loaves & Fishes. In 2023, Loaves & Fishes rescued approximately 2.7 million pounds of food. May said the amount is equivalent to more than $9 million worth of food redistributed into the community.

Eimer Stahl’s three offices once again came together for the firm’s annual holiday food bank fundraiser, supporting three essential organizations: Greater Chicago Food Depository, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, and Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. Our contributions help to provide meaningful support to these organizations that play a critical role in the fight against hunger.   - Greater Chicago Food Depository provided 101 million meals last year to those in need across Chicago and Cook County, where one in five households is experiencing inadequate food. - Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin distributes more than 20 million pounds of food annually, supporting the more than 600,000 people in Wisconsin experiencing hunger. - Second Harvest of Silicon Valley serves as a vital lifeline, providing meals to 500,000 people every month.   We’re honored to support the vital work they do in the communities where we live and work.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the grand opening of a state-of-the-art food distribution center in Montgomery, Orange County. This 50,000-square-foot facility will expand the Regional Food Bank of the Hudson Valley's capacity to serve over 179,000 people facing food insecurity across the region. The center will support over 400 local food programs, providing essential resources and improving food storage and distribution capabilities. Funded through state investments and private donations, this facility represents a significant step in addressing food insecurity and ensuring access to fresh, nutritious food for Hudson Valley communities. Restaurants are the backbone of any city like ours and are often the first to step up to help their neighbors, sometimes to their own detriment—now is no different. And yet, restaurants are already operating on hairline margins. In order to help at all, they need to remain open, providing employment for their teams, and bringing in the resources to cook for first responders, evacuees, volunteers, and simply guests. LA Community Meals is helping them do this. For the restaurants that are gone, the hope is that they're only gone for now. Supporting Regarding Her gives them the resources to rebuild. The ripple effect of this crisis is massive. These are direct ways you can help the tide recede.

For many Indigenous families living on reserves, accessing fresh groceries means driving an average of 45 minutes to the nearest store, only to face limited options when they get there. This creates a barrier to accessing healthy, nutritious food. Fresh Routes is working to close this gap. With our Mobile Grocery Stores, we bring food right to the reserves, offering fresh, affordable food where it’s needed most. But to keep serving these communities and expand our reach, we urgently need a walk-in cooler. The cooler will allow us to store and transport more food safely and ensure that families on reserves don’t have to worry about the next time they can access fresh produce.
