📢 Time now to introduce #EUBCE2024 Plenary Session AP1 "Building Industrial Capacity for Advanced Biofuels", Monday 24 June, 13.45-14.45. 💡 This special plenary session, chaired by Jean-Philippe Héraud, IFP Energies nouvelles and Ana Luisa Fernando, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, will cover the transition to #circular biomass value chains for hard to abate transport sectors and regional development and to assess investor perspectives in the drive to increase industrial production capacity. 🌿 The first presentation, by Maria Georgiadou, European Commission, will cover the European Commission’s study “Development of Outlook for the Necessary Means to Build Industrial Capacity for Drop in Advanced Biofuels” which aims to investigate and analyse factors contributing to the development of advanced and #sustainablebiofuels production within the relevant European policy and regulatory framework, to facilitate the timely market entry of #advancedbiofuels for achieving the 2030 and 2050 targets. 🏭 The second presentation, by Tero Saarno, Taaleri, looks at an investor’s view on investing in production facilities and it is given from an industrial perspective from a #bioindustry private equity operator. Carbon Carriers Driving the Net-Zero Future: The Role of Torrefied Biomass Pellets in Power-To-X “This study examines the environmental impacts, scalability, and logistical considerations of each carbon source. Biogenic carbon offers a near-term solution, and its various forms could simplify transportation logistics. An analysis of gasification processes, syngas cleaning, and hydrogen integration was conducted to assess the technical viability of these carbon sources in PtX applications. The results show that torrefied biomass pellets, after a thorough technical assessment, present a globally feasible and sustainable carbon carrier, setting the stage for industry standardization and easier global transportation. Syngas produced through the gasification of the pellets complemented by green hydrogen can be utilized in Fischer–Tropsch, methanol synthesis, and methanation, allowing PtX to synthesize practically any type of organic compounds in a hybrid Biomass–PtX (HBPtX) process. Yield10 Bioscience, Inc. has granted VISION Bioenergy Oilseeds, LLC, a global license to proprietary varieties of Camelina sativa for biofuel feedstock oil production, aiming to boost the biofuel market and advance decarbonization in transportation industries. The agreement includes a $3 million cash payment from VISION to Yield10. It provides VISION with a three-year exclusivity period to commercialize licensed Camelina traits for biofuels, after which the license becomes non-exclusive.
