Women have played significant roles in innovation throughout history, although their contributions have often been overlooked or marginalized. However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of women's involvement in innovation and entrepreneurship. According to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), women bring new perspectives and talents to the table and we need more participation from women benefitting from this system. So, let’s advocate and work towards gender parity in IP and unleash the ingenuity and creativity of women and girls in Malaysia and around the world. A reflection on International Women's Day & STRAVIK's Connects2save platform. As I reflect on International Women's Day today, the essence of the celebration takes on an even deeper meaning. With over 20 years in the corporate world, this day was predominantly associated with Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity—an area I've been fervently dedicated to championing. However, transitioning into entrepreneurship and focusing on our endeavor to establish a digitized ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) system, the "D&I" aspect, nestled within the Social dimension, gains greater significance. The Deputy Minister of Local Government Development YB Datuk Hajjah Aiman Athirah Sabu shared about the Global Gender Gap Index during her speech at Hari Wanita Pulau Pinang organized by PWDC in collaboration with USM, yesterday. Malaysia ranked 102nd out of 146 countries, excelling in education but lagging significantly in political empowerment and economic contributions. This highlights the pressing need for comprehensive efforts to achieve a sustainably balanced nation with substantial equality, particularly in decision-making and economic empowerment for women. At the current pace, it will take 131 years to bridge the global gender gap entirely. This realization led me to question our actions, especially concerning women in the workforce in Malaysia, where ESG reporting plays a crucial role. Understanding the enrollment of women in the labor force and their positions within the employment hierarchy is fundamental. The passion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), which has been a driving force in me for years, is now translated into one of the aspects of the Digital ESG system. It starts with understanding the baseline and progresses to providing recommendations for improvement. I am impressed that the longstanding passion for DEI is finding expression in the Digital ESG system. The ability to break down issues into manageable steps facilitates a ripple effect, contributing to the transformative journey that STRAVIK seeks with the Connect2Save platform, beginning with the digitized ESG system. Attending the Hari Wanita Pulau Pinang celebration was truly inspiring, with powerful speeches and just being surrounded by like-minded women & men, leaving me super energized.
