They address the needs of library patrons who may be experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental health issues, substance abuse, or other challenges that can hinder their ability to access and use library resources effectively. Library social workers offer direct support through counseling, referral services to local resources and assistance programs, crisis intervention, and sometimes programming aimed at social and life skills development.
