SHRM’s Executive-in-Residence for AI + HI had a conversation with Kevin Snider, chancellor at Penn State University, New Kensington, that cut to the heart of what’s at stake as artificial intelligence reshapes professional development. His latest work on human condition consciousness examines how professional identity and expertise develop through workplace experiences. The framework suggests that professionals aren’t shaped only by what they learn but also by the daily interactions, challenges, and problem-solving experiences they encounter. Employees are ready for the future with AI: Germany in 1st place (according to a report by LinkedIn). New technologies are changing a wide range of everyday things and can bring enormous benefits, especially in the workplace. Under two conditions: firstly, AI tools must be introduced purposefully by the company and strategically rolled out for the workforce. Secondly, it is essential to train employees in the opportunities that these tools offer, so that they can create real added value in their individual activities. I am proud that at Merck Group, we are pioneering AI tools, just last week, we reached the next level with our internal AI solution, MyGPT Suite. What comes next is systematic onboarding of employees, because AI alone will not make the difference. It is rather the #digitalliteracy of the people in the company. via Euronews #artificialintelligence #futureofwork https://lnkd.in/dBW9pEMw

Why humans are essential in an AI-Driven workplace 92 percent of US executives now consider people skills more crucial than ever. AI is just one tool in the toolbox; it enhances human work, enabling people to focus on the more valuable aspects of their roles. For example, AI can assist a software engineer with routine coding tasks, freeing up time for them to focus on innovation. Similarly, a recruiter can delegate job posting creation to AI, allowing more time for strategic work like candidate relationship-building. AI is making its way into more jobs. That's true. But even as work evolves, people skills will remain the most essential factor, per an article published on WIRED. Photo-Illustration: Lauren Joseph

As executives continue to develop their #AI strategies and look to implement it on an enterprise scale, the conversation is shifting away from if, to when and how. Leaders must consider all aspects of the company, from employees to clients to offerings, and assess how these tools can best support productivity and overall experience. I enjoyed reading Forbes' Future of Work Newsletter by Jena McGregor this week – valuable insights about how AI will continue to impact the #employeeexperience and workplaces in the future.

A great read about the use of AI in the skills landscape!
📰 I'm quoted in the Financial Times talking about how human decision-making needs to review the safe and appropriate use of AI in the workplace. We at techUK believe that AI tools can be valuable in supporting tasks like connecting employees to learning resources, personalising learning pathways, making training content more accessible, and facilitating self-learning. But high-stakes evaluation and growth decisions are best suited to remain under human supervision - a hybrid approach leverages AI's capabilities while respecting the fundamentally human nature of professional development and growth. We need to ensure the responsible adoption of AI tools in the workplace, especially when used for decision-making, and put human-centric thinking at its heart.
