Bit late to post this but I've been sunning it in the Dominican this past week! (And no, I haven't tanned, I still look like I've been sunbathing in 10 degree cloudy weather in Skegness.)
I'm delighted to receive the "Outstanding Performer" award at the 8x8 EMEA SKO 2 weeks ago. Something I never imagined winning after only 2 years of joining the SE team!
It's been a manic past FY, various deals worked & won, & new partnerships discussed/created; but the main thing that really happened this year (this includes the first year I joined the SE team), I really found my passion in Public Sector, and especially #housing. Carrying out multiple speaker sessions at recent housing events, as well as creating custom demos & use cases for the sector, really fueled this passion.
I want to say thank-you to both Steve Edmonds & Andrew Lilley for bringing me into the SE team & pushing me to go out of my comfort zone, as well as Samuel C WilsonLisa MartinBryan MartinJamie SnaddonRussell Tilsed (& many more!) for being inspirational leaders & having me up on stage!
Below is a picture of me "definitely not breathing in to look better for the photo".
Onto FY25! (You'll want to see the amazing innovation 8x8 has coming up!)

The end of the year is always a special time at Svitzer Americas, and this year’s Awards Night was no exception. It’s a moment to reflect, celebrate, and honor the teams that have gone above and beyond.
Choosing the Technical Country of the Year was particularly challenging. In the maritime industry, the Technical Function operates in one of the most high-pressure environments—constantly managing crises, controlling budgets, ensuring the safety of our crew, assets, and the environment, all while maintaining vessel reliability.
For me, technical excellence isn’t measured by the absence of breakdowns or failures—those are inevitable in our line of work. What defines exceptional technical management is how we learn from incidents, how we respond with urgency, and how we turn setbacks into opportunities to improve.
This year, we’re proud to award Technical Country of the Year to the Statia Team! 🌟 They faced numerous challenges but demonstrated unwavering commitment to upholding Svitzer’s high standards across all their vessels. Their ability to adapt, solve problems, and deliver results showcases the best of what our technical teams can achieve.
A special shoutout to Theo Van Der Meer for leading the team with such determination and focus. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and you’ve set a benchmark for resilience and performance.
Congratulations to the entire Statia team—you’ve truly earned this recognition! 👏👏 Let’s keep learning, improving, and driving forward in the year ahead. NEED FOR SPEED. There is traditional talk, drink and laugh networking and then there's Corporate Counsel Women of Color (CCWC)fast car-driving networking. At CCWC, I thought, this was cute. I'll say hello to a few, take a few laps, and then head in. But, then it happened.
They put 12 of us on a track and when those cars amped up on speed, I think I lost my mind. I saw a leader board and instinctly after seeing myself in 3rd place, I had to be first. I started banking curves, darting between cars, and aiming for # 1. There was no other option. After 2 laps, I did it! Now, people had to chase me (Car#2). I kept that lead for another 7 laps and My CCWC sister Kara Andheller (in Car#19) reminded me that that coveted spot was just as much hers as I decided it was mine.
Notably, Kara and I had goals for first place, but on that same track were other CCWC sisters who were simply trying to survive, trying not to be last, trying not to run into the wall. Kara told me she was chasing my shiny shoes and her moment came when a slower racer on the track stalled. I had a choice, cut off the slower car and win or slow down and save us both. I slowed down. I came in 2nd, but all was well. I qualified for the finals.
Who knew the lessons from an adrenaline filled networking event would be found that night? What I can tell you is this:
In your aim for the top:
1. Always be aware of the people around you who want what you want. Can you help them? Will you cheer for them? Will they cheer for you? Can you both win? BTW, I was happy for Kara and she for me. We both qualified for the finals.
2. What you want is for you, but careful not to step on, roll over or look down on others who are on the same track but could use your courtesy, perhaps even your help. Lift as you climb.
3. Your definition of success is measured by your willingness to stay present in the moment of your happiness. You are winning no matter what when you know what you know what you know.

I had the pleasure of attending the Mitie High Potential event yesterday—not as one of the high potentials, mind you, just an observer.
It was fantastic to be in the midst of Mitie's top account and delivery teams.
During the session, Frost & Sullivan presented an insightful analysis of the UK facilities management market and its participants, shedding light on the current trends.
It got me pondering about motivation and drive, both on a personal level and within the company.
How do you stay motivated when you're at the top of your game? How do you push yourself to improve just a little bit each day? Whether you're Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Siya Kolisi of the South Africa Rugby Team, or working in an FM company like ours, what drives performance, and what metrics do you use?
Is it the Dave Brailsford approach of incremental gains? His philosophy of "the aggregation of marginal gains" focuses on making small improvements in everything you do, believing that these tiny changes can add up to remarkable results.
Or do you measure large absolute changes; trophies or revenue or numbers of contracts at year end?
So, what is it that drives us in FM? Is it how many contracts we've won or retained? Is it being voted the best place to work? Or is it something more personal, like the satisfaction of seeing those incremental improvements in our daily tasks?
For me, it’s recognising that we are slightly better today than we were last week, last month, and last year.
It’s about delivering to our people, our clients, and through these improvements, our stakeholders.
However, what motivated me today was beating my personal best on the ride into work on this lovely day!!
