As a studio, we steer away from following ‘trends’, preferring to take guidance and inspiration from a building’s architecture and cultural setting, both past and present. That said, there are some current trends in sustainable design that will hopefully make the much needed transition to ‘design norms’. This week we look at 6 design trends that are hopefully here to stay... #sustainabledesign #designtrends #interiordesign

Which trends do you think are gaining momentum in the design world? When I sit on panels or in meetings, this is a question I'm sometimes asked and it’s gratifying to be able to say many of them are practices that Sibley Grove adopted from the studio’s inception, nearly 15 years ago. Here are 6 trends in sustainable design that I'm watching gain momentum. I'd be interested to know what other designers are seeing, and whether you think these 'trends' will become industry 'norms'? #designthinking #circulardesign

In the world of design, the allure of "the new" often overshadows the benefits of reusing existing materials and architecture. However, with our large focus on sustainability and circular economy goals, repurposing can offer aesthetic and functional advantages while reducing waste. 🌎✨ How can we, as designers, architects, and real estate professionals, transform mindsets about the value of material reuse? 🌲 ♻️ How can we embrace the power of the "not-new" and inspire a culture shift that aligns with our sustainability goals? In our latest blog post, Brett Gardner, IA's Director of Sustainability, explores the answers to these questions and more. 👇 https://bit.ly/4e3V1Z6

Rethinking Design: Are We Losing Sight of What Really Matters? Trends in construction come and go, driven by societal expectations and market demands. But as we chase these trends, are we losing sight of what truly matters—longevity and sustainability? Take the trend of flat roofs, tiny blocks, and small homes. They’re stylish, but are they built to last? In Australia, with so much space, why are we pushing for smaller and smaller blocks? It’s convenient, sure—but is it the best direction for our future? A home should be more than just a place to live. It should grow with us, provide comfort, and stand the test of time. Just as we care for our bodies, we should design our homes with care—sustainable, lasting spaces that serve generations. Let’s rethink how we design and build. Are we creating homes that allow for self-sufficiency and sustainability? Or are we missing the opportunity to build homes that nurture and protect us long-term? It’s time to plant seeds of change. Let’s design homes that reflect our commitment to sustainability and create spaces that serve us—and future generations. #ConstructionIndustry #Architecture #HomeDesign #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #SustainableDesign #Innovation #FutureOfConstruction #Permaculture

First Nations design principles and sustainability go hand-in-hand, together improving relationships between people and nature to create more resilient, inclusive societies. Nguluway DesignInc Managing Director, Craig Kerslake Wiradjuri Nation, said: "Sustainable design and Designing from Country are extremely complimentary. While sustainable design is the business of creating environmentally-responsive buildings, places, precincts—Designing with Country focuses on the drivers that compel us to act sustainably in the first place. Relationships. Specifically relationships between humanity and nature. The Indigenous way of seeing the world intuitively builds in sustainability due to those cultural systems which declare that we are related to nature, a part of it. Through this Country-centric mindset, we intuitively look after it—like you would a family member. When architects design from this premise, we embed the Indigenous narrative of relationships as the highest priority. When people are intrinsically linked to place, they intuitively care for it.” Thanks for stopping by, Atelier Ten—it’s always a pleasure to share stories and ideas as part of our industry’s pursuit of reconciliation and environmental stewardship. + Featuring Atelier Ten, Nguluway DesignInc and DesignInc Sydney + Catering by Native Foodways #NowMoreThanEver #NationalReconcilationWeek #B2B #ThoughtLeadership #Architecture #Design #Landscape #Interiors Joyce Lim Tom Fletcher Ian Armstrong Paul Stoller Lucy Marsland Jennifer Elias Stewart Monti Davis Demillo

https://lnkd.in/gsjfePNS Are we prioritising trends over timeless design? Let’s focus on crafting smaller, more meaningful spaces that connect with their environment and embrace sustainable materials. Quality over quantity isn't just a catchphrase; it’s a design philosophy. How can we as designers lead this shift? #Architecture #Sustainability #DesignLeadership #GrandDesignsAustralia
