We just published a study assessing the digital maturity of ID and passport application processes in 14 countries. The UAE and Singapore lead with fully digitalized systems that integrate physical IDs with e-identity solutions, enabling access to many public and private services. In contrast, countries like Japan, Canada, and Belgium have limited digitalization and fragmented systems. Most countries fall in between, offering partial digital services but still requiring in-person steps. The study highlights the importance of strong legal frameworks and infrastructure to improve efficiency, security, and accessibility in digital identity systems. EU digital identity wallet for businesses will be one important initiative next year, a single solution for SMEs to have access to markets in all member states.

Digital European Identity is an European Union initiative designed to simplify and secure access to public and private services across Europe. The project was launched in 2021 and is expected to be fully implemented by 2024. Most EU countries are already working on integrating this system, with some already at an advanced stage of implementation. The benefits and main uses of the E-ID, in addition to ease of access to services and enhanced security through strong authentication and data control, will involve significant simplification and greater European integration. What can the E-ID be used for? With the digital identity, users will be able to manage health services by consulting medical records and booking appointments, securely organize their bank accounts, and shop online. Additionally, it will be possible to interact with authorities, easily requesting certificates and permits. Borderless ID? Mercosur Nations Team Up on Digital Identity. MERCOSUR member countries #Argentina, #Brazil, #Paraguay, #Uruguay, and #Suriname have launched a collaborative effort to develop a cross-border digital identity system. A unified digital ID system could make travel, payments, and other cross-border activities more accessible. Standardized digital identities might also help boost security and cut down on fraud. This could also boost regional trade by making it more straightforward for businesses to identify one another within Mercosur.
