ULS is Irish partner in the EU funded CARE project, addressing early childhood education and care in Palestine. Under the leadership of Al Quds Open University in Palestine, this project has representative parters from Italy, Greece, England and Portugal. We are delighted to announce the forthcoming CARE research conference in Ramallah in November.
The CARE project announces their flagship conference: Nurturing Early Years Education and Care in Palestine: Hopes, Aspirations and Reality.
The Early Years sector is increasingly important in supporting teachers, children, and their families in building a quality education system for the future. In Palestine, such a system will not only educate, but also support children and families to heal and recover from the trauma experienced during the current violence, enabling the children to benefit from the nurturing space being offered.
Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child under the age of 18 has a right to education, and they should live with a sense of safety, support and health. Sadly, in many places in the world, particularly in Palestine, we are not yet meeting that standard, meaning that children are being robbed of what should be the joy and playful freedom of youth and time to grow as best fits each one. We hope and aim that this project will benefit the children of Palestine especially in the current difficult situation.
Given the global context of genocide, war, child labour, violence, resource inequalities and other experiences no child should be exposed to, we found it essential to provide what support we could through our own expertise in Early Years developmental support. We aim and hope that this contribution will be able to reach and aid as many children in Palestine and beyond, particularly as we are aware how much these early years can establish a lifelong context for how they engage with themselves and the world around them.
The CARE Project’s Diploma programme will reach many Kindergartens and Nurseries in Palestine. It is initially targeting 60 nurseries, with an average of 15 children in each; in the kindergartens there are currently 80 staff for preservice teacher training, and also 18 academic staff who teach more than 100 kindergarten preservice teachers at the universities.
Please register for the conference on the website, where submissions for papers can also be accepted. https://care.edu.ps/
