Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's remarks at the 3rd Singapore-Pacific High-Level Visit, 20 May 2024: “Singapore and the Pacific Islands are natural partners. Except for Papua New Guinea, the rest of us are really tiny, and that includes Singapore – tiny, low lying island states. The two neighbors enjoy unique, robust (although occasionally testy) bilateral ties, forged by their shared history and profound economic dependence and influences on one another. They have come a long way from the turbulent creation of the city-state after being expelled from Malaysia in 1965 to build a near inseparable, mutually beneficial interdependence anchored on strong political, economic, cultural and familial relations. Singapore is the largest foreign investor in Malaysia and they are each other's second largest trading partner. In a world fraught with conflicts and tension among neighboring countries, Malaysia-Singapore bilateral ties stand out like a shining beacon that serves as a great example of what can be achieved when nations focus on setting aside differences and working together to fulfill common aspirations, interests and objectives.

It serves as a forum for Cambodia to develop closer relations with Australia and ASEAN, as well as to boost its standing in the area, foster cultural interchange, and improve economic prospects. Cambodia can assure a prosperous future for its people and establish itself as a major participant in the region by capitalizing on the outcomes of this summit. ASEAN summit: EU seeks to build bridges in Southeast Asia

Denmark aims to strengthen its ties with Southeast Asian nations to reduce its reliance on China, as stated by Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur. Rasmussen emphasized the importance of diversifying relations and supply chains, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and the current geopolitical landscape. In this context, Malaysia emerges as an appealing destination for investments and fostering deeper connections.

Dr. UN Kheang, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn to discuss regional cooperation and unity. The meeting was held during the "ASEAN-China Future Relations Forum" in Indonesia. Both diplomats acknowledged the importance of socio-economic integration and cultural ties in strengthening regional identity. They discussed strategies to maximize collective advantages while mitigating shared challenges, respecting the unique position of each member state. Enhancing ASEAN's cooperation was crucial for the 650 million-strong population of the ASEAN inhabitants, as well as adjacent regions linked through trade, investment, and security.
