Since 2020, I and PPLH Bali's team have accompanied Zero Waste activities in Saridewi, Denpasar. Various waste management activities from sources have been carried out and are successful. Indeed, support from various stakeholders is needed so that the implementation of zero waste can be sustainable. To find out about Saridewi's Zero Waste journey, you can check https://lnkd.in/ghymh947 I also started started managing waste from the source. The Zero waste concept uses as little natural resources as possible. For examples of what I do are carrying a tumbler when doing activities, preparing reusable bags when shopping and starting organic composting at home, as is done in Saridewi. #ThisIsZeroWaste #ZeroWasteAcademy #socialmediachallenge @ZeroWasteAsia @MotherEarthFoundation

Pura Besakih, the largest temple in Indonesia, is located in #BesakihVillage, and it is facing a problem with waste. The Sukla consortium team, consisting of Wastehub Alam Lestari, Rebricks Indonesia, and Bali Waste Cycle under the #CatalystChangemakersEcosystem 2.0 program, is determined to address this issue in the sacred area. After several months of implementing Sukla's solutions, let's look at the progress made and the challenges encountered! Initially, the Sukla team faced various challenges related to community empowerment. The interest of the Besakih Village community in Sukla's programs was low, resulting in difficulties such as obtaining permits, human resources for waste management, community habits, access to waste materials, and supporting raw materials for producing green products. To address these issues, Sukla organized various hearing sessions and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to introduce their programs to the Besakih community more closely. Over time, the participation of the Besakih Village community became more active, and the Sukla team successfully implemented several innovative solutions. They launched a dashboard to monitor community waste retribution costs, allowing residents to track their waste management progress. By March 2024, hundreds of green products, equivalent to approximately 37 kg of residual waste, were successfully managed, providing economic benefits to the community. The collaboration with the Karangasem Regency Environmental Office (DLHK) has been crucial in optimizing the empowerment of the waste sorting team and securing recycled waste materials. Through the use of social media and e-commerce platforms, businesses in the area have been able to market their green products to a wider audience. All stakeholders, from the government to the local community, are united in their efforts to protect the village that is home to Indonesia's largest temple. #Environment #Environmental #Lingkungan #Sukla #EnviroGuide #Bali

📱♻️ A powerful example of how technology and systems thinking can drive transformational change In 2017, the Indonesian government announced a bold commitment to reduce the country’s ocean plastic levels by 70%, and since then, Project STOP - co-founded by Borealis and Systemiq Ltd. - has connected more than 450,000 people to a waste management system. The Project STOP Banyuwangi Hijau App - an innovative digital solution created in partnership with Accenture and local governments - helps to optimise waste management in underserved communities, from processing fees to finding the best collection route and improving material traceability. It is part of #ProjectSTOP’s mission to create comprehensive, economically sustainable waste management systems at scale in Southeast Asia, and represents the innovative and scalable approach we envisioned when we initiated the project. Innovations like these can help to drive change on a greater scale. Having already collected nearly 75,000 tons of waste and created over 275 local jobs since 2017, Project STOP is dedicated to creating a roadmap and an enabling environment for reaching Indonesia’s government targets, and to ensuring that every family in Indonesia has access to circular waste management.
