🗞💥 BREAKING NEWS 💥🗞 Lab-grown meat has just been approved for pet food in the UK!!! 🐶📢 Britain becomes the first country in Europe to approve cultivated meat. This is also the first time a cultivated pet food product has been cleared for sale ANYWHERE in the world. 😲🌍 Following the decision by the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) on July 2, Meatly can supply its cultivated chicken to dog food manufacturers. This product is made by taking a small sample from a chicken egg, cultivating it with vitamins and amino acids in a lab, then growing cells in a container similar to those in which beer is fermented. Why is this such big news? 🤷♀️ 🐶 Pet ownership is increasing here in the UK 🥫 We're feeding pets A LOT of meat (roughly 20% of all meat produced) ⏳ The growing demand for this carbon-intensive food is unsustainable Meatly's cultivated chicken uses up to 64% less land and 28% less water to produce. And ZERO animals are slaughtered. Research suggests that both farmers and consumers are warming to the idea of cultivated meat, with one study finding that 50% of surveyed pet owners would feed their pets cultivated meat. 🙋♂️🥫 What do you think about this news?! #cultivatedmeat #altprotein #sustainability

Quote of the Week 📢 A pet food product can offer a well-formulated blend of nutrients and sustainably sourced ingredients for a reasonable price, but all those selling points won't matter if the food doesn't appeal to the pet it is intended to nourish. Ensuring #petfood is palatable involves a range of considerations and testing is key to ensure more products are widely accepted by pets. Did you Know?🤔 The term "natural" in pet food should only describe ingredients derived from plant, animal, microorganism, or mineral sources to which nothing has been added and that have only undergone physical processing to make them suitable for pet food production while maintaining their natural composition. Although specific legal definitions may not exist, the FEDIAF - The European Pet Food Industry sets standards are written in line with general EU regulations and represent best practice. Pet foods marketed as "natural" must exclusively use natural ingredients without any chemically synthesised substances. For more detailed definitions of common pet food claims or to understand how these apply to specific products, please contact the manufacturer directly. 🔎 Read our 'Claims on Pet Food' factsheet which gives a comprehensive overview of the most common claims that owners may come across: https://lnkd.in/gJ4EqjiP #UKPetFoodStandards #FactFriday
