The SMEOrigin Policy Transfer Working group met today to discuss and finalize the methodology of the exchange of experience process within the #SMEOrigin project partnership. This will pave the way for successful transfer of Good Practices to boost the SME Competitiveness in the food sector. The methodology is based on the Strategic Toolkit, prepared earlier by project partners. It is available for download on the SMEOrigin website. The methodology itself will be finalized by the end of Sem 3, following 2 more project meetings focusing on value chains and labelling. The solutions will be presented during the 5th interregional event, which will be targeted towards stakeholders across the partnership. The event will be an opportunity for deeper interaction between stakeholders across borders. 🌿 Celebrating the Impact of INTPREP! 🌿 Since 2020, the INtegrated Tropical Peatlands REsearch Programme (INTPREP) - a research initiative focused on the study and restoration of tropical peatlands - has been at the forefront of delivering high-quality scientific results and practical solutions for the revegetation of degraded tropical peatlands. Today, stakeholders gathered at the Indonesian Embassy to discuss the impact of INTPREP. Graced by Guest of Honour, Ambassador of Indonesia H.E. Suryo Pratomo, this event saw presentations made by A/Prof Sanjay Swarup, SCELSE Dy Research Dir, and Prof Iskandar Ziregar, focusing on "INTPREP: Solutions & Impacts". Their presentation highlighted the ‘Sky-to-Soil Integrative, Multi-scalar Framework’ with real outcomes for science, industry, and policy. Opening remarks were given by Prof Low Teck Seng, SVP (Sustainability & Resilience) at the National University of Singapore, and Prof Jatna Supriatna, INTPREP Scientific Advisory Board. The event covered the outcomes of the first stage of INTPREP, discussed the potential adoption of findings, and explored collaborations for the next stage, INTPREP2.0. Together, we aim to achieve measurable results in revegetation science, restoration solutions, and socio-economic benefits for communities through long-term monitoring and innovative pilot studies. The #CARECInstitute (CI) and the #MekongInstitute (MI) have formalized a pivotal partnership aimed at enhancing regional cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during an online ceremony held on November 14, 2024. This strategic alliance is designed to advance sustainable development across the CAREC and Great Mekong regions by fostering collaborative research, capacity-building initiatives, and policy development. In his address, Mr. Kabir Jurazoda, Director of the CAREC Institute, underscored the significance of the MOU as more than a mere formal agreement. “This MOU symbolizes our unwavering commitment to collaboratively advancing the development and sustainability of both the CAREC and Great Mekong regions. By leveraging our combined expertise and resources, we aim to devise innovative solutions that will benefit our member countries and communities,” stated Mr. Jurazoda. He further highlighted that this partnership would facilitate joint research projects, training programs, and the exchange of critical knowledge, all aimed at empowering stakeholders and fostering long-term progress. Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn, Executive Director of the Mekong Institute, also emphasized the importance of the agreement, noting the integral role both institutions play in regional development. “The Great Mekong and CAREC sub-regions are pivotal drivers of economic growth, not only in trade, investment, and logistics but also in forging pathways for more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development. As we approach the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, institutions like CI and MI are crucial in advancing our shared goals and ensuring a transition to a more sustainable future,” remarked Mr. Vichitlekarn. He also highlighted the shared challenges and opportunities facing the two regions and the potential for mutual benefit through policy development, knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and expertise leveraging. The MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation, enabling both institutions to explore joint initiatives, collaborate on research proposals, and engage in personnel exchanges. The agreement was witnessed by senior management and division chiefs from both organizations, marking a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the two institutes and reinforcing their collective commitment to regional development.

Today we welcome the findings of the Annual Knowledge Transfer Survey, a comprehensive report compiled by Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) on knowledge transfer activities in #Ireland,for the year 2023. The survey, which collects data from Ireland’s Higher Education Institutes including eight Universities, five Technological Universities, two Institutes of Technology and two Colleges, also incorporates contributions from Teagasc, the Marine Institute and Irish Manufacturing Research. The findings underscore the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in driving economic growth and fostering innovation, particularly for Teagasc research which continues to show very #positive trends year on year. With thanks to the team Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) and Enterprise Ireland for collating all the results and to Miriam Walsh and Emma Walsh for co-ordinating the Teagasc returns. On December 16, 2024, the 2nd Local Stakeholders' Meeting of the Low-Carbon SME Development and Transition (COMMIT) project will take place in Kozani, hosted by Energy Transition & Development Transformation Laboratory - ENTRA Lab at the headquarters of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Macedonia. Key stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, and SME representatives, will gather to explore innovative strategies to develop green skills essential for a just energy transition. The session will spotlight Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (FCM), a participatory tool that helps identify and analyze relationships between critical parameters for sustainable development. Discussions will focus on: ✅ Defining key parameters for green skills development to support SMEs. ✅ Mapping interconnections to achieve an inclusive and sustainable transition.
