Professor Karen Levy shared reflections about her research on children's health in Beira, Mozambique, at our latest #EnviromentalHealth seminar. She and her team, which included partners at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, followed health impacts after a $200 million World Bank investment to improve the public water infrastructure. The multiyear PAASIM study was unique in that it studied a community-wide intervention in an urban setting, rather than point-of-use interventions like filters, and employed extensive objective measurements of both exposures and outcomes.

To promote global health governance, SJTU School of Global Health, in collaboration with the National Tropical Disease Research Center, launched a project under the 2024 Global Challenge Program: “Exploring the Feasibility of Adapting China’s Schistosomiasis Elimination Experience in Southeast Asia.” 🌿🤝 Together with members from Laos' Tropical Diseases and Public Health Research Institute, the team conducted joint fieldwork to explore how China's successful practices could be applied in Southeast Asia, contributing to the global fight against schistosomiasis. Had the privilege of reviewing abstracts for the 8th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research 2024, which brings together the brightest minds in health systems research and policymaking. Knowing about the health system of a country is crucial in order to start any health policy conversation. While my batch didn't have any abstracts from the Balkans, I remain hopeful that our researchers will be represented in the book of abstracts. Our researchers have the potential to contribute tremendously to the field, despite the challenges in the education curricula that do not extend enough information about this field of inquiry. #healthsystemsresearch #policymaking #researchers #healthpolicy #publichealth #globalhealth #Balkans

HERD International hosted the South Asia Regional Writing Workshop to strengthen the capacity of early-career researchers to produce peer-reviewed research outputs. The workshop was part of  CHORUS Urban Health Research Consortium working in Bangladesh, Ghana, Nigeria, and Nepal in strengthening urban health systems to address double burden of diseases.

Today marks the first day of the 8th World One Health Congress(#WOHC) in Cape Town, South Africa. A lot of young, mid-career and senior scientists are here, and I feel honoured to have a dedicated space to showcase my PhD work under the theme of non-communicable diseases in One Health. There's much more work to be done under this theme. So, if anyone attending the WOHC would like to discuss gender and mental well-being in One Health, I would be more than happy to chat in person tomorrow and the remaining congress dates. With the community's voice at the forefront, it is important to remember that reality is complex, and there is no single truth. Understanding subjective mental well-being is crucial in capturing the full picture. #Snakebite is a real problem that impacts real lives. Addressing this issue requires concerted efforts and resources. The African Snakebite Alliance (ASA) aims to improve health outcomes for victims of snakebite envenoming and tackle existing gaps in evidence-based policies and practices. Through ASA, Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), Kenya Institute of Primate Research, Rwanda Biomedical Center, Eswatini Antivenom Foundation, University of Global Health Equity, and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine will strive towards achieving the World Health Organization's goal of halving snakebite deaths and disability worldwide by 2030. #AfricanSnakebiteAllianace #ASA #Snakebite #BeatNTDs

The Director of Masters of Science in Public Health program Dr. Biraj Karmacharya, along with his collaborators from NTNU Norway, succeeded to share about their research experiences relating to health needs of rural population in the remote outreach centers of Dhulikhel Hospital, Department of Public Health and Community Programs through a "Global Health Action" magazine. The Department of Public Health and Community Programs was founded by Dr. Karmacharya in 2006, and currently there are 18 outreach centers in different parts of rural Nepal.
