Do you know where our Social Recycling Shipyard will be built? 📍 #GuanabaraBay is the most important estuarine system of Rio de Janeiro state, located in the second most important metropolitan region in Brazil. 💠Its drainage basin has approximately 4,000km2 and comprises 16 municipalities, 7 main rivers, as well as 51 minor rivers and canals. 💹The basin area encompasses 10 million inhabitants, with intense urban and industrial development, corresponding to 80% of the population of the state of Rio de Janeiro. 🐠 Around the Guanabara Bay, there are more than 15 fishermen colonies, and associations and at least 32 landing points. There are estimates ranging from 5000 to 18,000 registered/unregistered fishermen. 🚯 Currently, 90 tons/day of waste enter the Guanabara Bay due to mismanagement and lack of efficient waste collection and treatment systems in the surrounding communities. Beyond the above-mentioned arguments, the Guanabara Bay is key to Rio de Janeiro´s economic development and requires close attention in terms of environmental measures! If you don´t know where it is, take a closer look and stay tuner for the next posts! #innovation #guanabarabay #baiadeguanabara #marinelitter #recycling

The Autazes Potash Project will contribute to food security in Brazil and the world and drive sustainable development in Autazes, Amazonas. Among the infrastructure projects that will remain in the municipality after the completion of the project is the installation of a 165 km power transmission line to support the project. The utility company may make part of this transmission line available to municipal centers and nearby communities, reaching 200,000 people who currently rely on diesel-powered generators, which produce greenhouse gases. With this transmission line, the community will gain access to cleaner energy. Additionally, a 12-kilometer road will be rebuilt between the communities of Vila de Urucurituba and Lago do Soares, and a large port will be constructed to transport the mined product. #PotassioDoBrasil #BrazilPotash #PotashFertilizers #ESG #Potash #PotassiumChloride #Amazonas #Autazes #AutazesPotashProject #LicensedForInstallation #Development #Commitment

IWATA, July 16, 2024 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) announces it has signed a service agreement with YL Forest Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, "YLF"), a company headquartered in Fukuoka City that is implementing its proprietary mangrove planting method in the Republic of Indonesia. Going forward, funding provided to YLF by the Company will go toward launching a new mangrove planting project in the country's province of South Sulawesi. The agreement entrusts YLF with silvo-fishery-based mangrove planting work over a three-year period, aimed at contributing to biodiversity, carbon neutrality, and preventing marine pollution. Through YLF's work, Yamaha Motor will plant 215 hectares (approximately 370,000 trees) of mangroves as well as maintain operations in the project area. YLF conducts afforestation work using its own version of silvo-fishery for mangrove planting. Silvo-fishery (a portmanteau of "silviculture" and "fishery") is a method that yields the benefits of both mangrove reforestation and aquaculture regeneration. This combination not only contributes to sustainable forest management but also to improving the livelihoods of local residents through sustainable aquaculture paired with the natural environment. Furthermore, mangrove forests store large amounts of carbon underground, making them an important channel for blue carbon.* One of the four items in the Company's Marine Long-Term Vision is "Towards a future with a greater ocean than the current one of today." As a marine industry leader, Yamaha Motor will continue working to preserve the world's beautiful waters in order to achieve this goal. *Carbon absorbed into coastal and marine ecosystems that accumulates in the biomass and soil below it. #Yamaha #RevsyourHeart #collaboration #environment #preservation #silvofishery #Indonesia #forests #aquaculture #carbon #carbonneutral #bluecarbon

Our biggest projects are being verified for #carbonremoval and #biodiversitycredits. Today in Odamira region (Alentejo, Portugal) with the ASES Ecological and Sustainable Services team, monitoring this Life Terra Foundation plantation of 55+ ha under the #aOCP scheme. A former monoculture of eucalyptus was replaced by 5 species, incl. the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) that will provide additional future income (its fruit is transformed into the famous Aguardiente de Madroños liquor).

Guardians of the Rainforest: How Tagua is Saving Ecuador's Forests and Communities This International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we take you to the heart of Ecuador's lush rainforests, where an unassuming seed is making waves. Known as tagua or vegetable ivory, this seed is becoming a symbol of sustainability and hope. For over two decades, TRAFINO S.A. and Taguatech have championed the cause of tagua, not just for its remarkable resemblance to ivory but for the immense environmental and social benefits it brings. "Tagua is more than just a material," says a TRAFINO representative. "It's a lifeline for our rainforests and our communities. FairWild certification has validated our efforts, ensuring that our practices are sustainable and our workers are treated fairly." The collection, processing, and sale of Tagua nuts provide direct employment opportunities for community members. This includes roles such as harvesters, artisans, and traders—all now earning stable incomes, improving their overall standard of living and economic stability. The journey of tagua from forest floor to global market is a testament to the power of sustainable practices. Local communities, now trained in sustainable harvesting techniques, collect the seeds, preserving the delicate ecosystem of the rainforest. The seeds are then transformed into buttons, jewellery, and even cosmetic exfoliants, providing a sustainable alternative to plastic. The increasing demand for tagua products is incentivising communities to protect their forests rather than convert them to pastures or monocultures. "Consumers should know that by using FairWild certified products, they are doing their part to protect the environment and biodiversity around the world and support socially just causes." https://lnkd.in/dVJy68GS #IndigenousWisdom #CommunityEmpowerment #EnvironmentalSustainability #IndigenousPeoplesDay! #FairWild #ThePowerofWild #TaguaNut #TRAFINO #TAGUATECH

Props to Choon Chyuan Low for this eye-opening piece about the realities of deforestation in Malaysia. While sustainability certifications often sound promising, the on-the-ground implementation can paint a different picture. Summary: This investigative report exposes mismanagement in Pahang's oil palm plantation projects (which are certified sustainable). Massive deforestation for PKNP's plantation has disrupted villagers' water supply and destroyed wildlife habitat. The oil palm plantation project suffers from poor yields because of encroachment by displaced elephants and yet, remains eight years on. Experts believe the "worst-managed oil palm plantation in Malaysia" remains a front for lucrative timber logging. Go read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gvgZNQCa
