About us
The Social Recycling Shipyard is a project implemented by BlackForest Solutions, and financed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) from Germany. The overall objective of the project is to prevent and minimize marine litter in the target regions (Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro and surrounding communities). To achieve this, the project foresees the participation and training of local and regional actors, the transfer of knowledge and technology between Germany and Brazil, and the development and implementation of financially sustainable social business models using plastic waste/marine litter. These will be achieved through the following measures: - Baseline study and user needs assessment - Status quo, gap analysis and waste characterization; - Research program in marine plastics, including laboratory and mechanical property tests, as well as a database on the composition of materials and parameters; - Conceptualization of social businesses related to plastic recycling, through the implementation of a social recycling shipyard pilot project that includes a circular reward system; and - Awareness-raising, capacity building and long-term sustainability and dissemination of the concept developed.

This week, ReverseLab had the privilege of hosting a distinguished delegation organized by the Consulado Geral da República Federal da Alemanha. Amongst the participants, we received Mr. Stefan Tidow, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, the German Consul in Rio de Janeiro Mr. Jan Freigang, Mr. Georg Bonsiepe and Ms. Caroline Schmidt from the BMUV, Timon Lepold from the German Embassy and Allan Lima. During his parallel agenda to the #G20 discussions on marine plastic waste, Mr. Tidow, together with the delegation, took the opportunity to visit our project in Morro da Babilônia, Rio de Janeiro. The visit provided a valuable platform to discuss Rio's environmental future, emphasizing the crucial role of sustainable education within local communities. We also explored the importance of #decentralizedsolutions, such as ReverseLab, in developing the necessary infrastructure and networks for plastic waste treatment. 🌟 Exciting Milestone! 🌟 We are thrilled to announce the launch of the #onsite campaigns for the Social Recycling Shipyard project. 🎛 Our team has officially started onsite field campaigns to select collection points and evaluate location for the placement of #collectionpoints and the #recyclingplant + #shipyard options. ♻We also visited multiple #wastecooperatives to assess their potential as partners. One cooperative stood out for its space and existing infrastructure, showing great promise for collaboration. 🎣 Besides those, we also visited our main stakeholder group: #Fishermen Colonies. Considering past experiences from BlackForest Solutions GmbH at the Guanabara Bay, doors were open when we brought them the new initiative. 👊 We also assessed warehouses in the area, identifying potential hubs for our recycling activities, ensuring we have the right infrastructure to support our operations. 💥 We went public! Since the project begin ( 03/24), we have been mostly organise and planning our activities, meeting some partners and preparing our action plan. ♻ During the IFAT worldwide, we presented our banner explaining the project to the participants who were coming to BlackForest Solutions GmbH booth. It was great to see the interest from attendees and all innovative characters this project will bring! 🤩 In addition, we met the Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH team, part of Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, financing entity of this project.
