Speaking to these aspiring entrepreneurs in the MIT Portugal Program Innovation Workshop, I fielded some great questions like how to balance work-life when building a startup. (My answer: Prioritize what's most important in work and in life, and accept the fact that an infinite number of things you could be doing will not get done. Entrepreneurship is about creating solutions to problems, not about perfection.) Thanks to Christina Chase and Douglas Hart for the invitation.

A Powerful Start to 2025 for Local Entrepreneurs!   We’re proud to unveil the Founder Labs Pre-Accelerator Programme, an exciting new initiative kicking off this January and delivered by The Founder Labs Team led by The AMP Growth Incubator in Derry. This bespoke, six-week programme is designed to inject tailored support into the journeys of 18 ambitious early-stage innovation driven enterprises.   Funded by Invest Northern Ireland and delivered by The AMP, this programme is all about accelerating high-potential start-ups. With 1-to-1 mentoring, customised guidance and support, it’s a unique opportunity to equip these founders with the tools, insights and strategies they need to hit the ground running in 2025.   A big welcome to the 18 start-ups and we look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the coming weeks!

The atmosphere was motivating and, above all, fun. On Tuesday, the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship plan practicum students shared their startup ideas. Some of the takeaways include: (1) Take time to understand the whole market and consult with people in related industries to discover facets of the market you would not have identified prior. (2) Consider multiple purposes for your product to expand your market (3) Carefully design your pricing strategy around elasticity and people's ability to pay (4) Presentation matters (the design of the slides can make a big difference). (5) It's important to emphasize the problem that you're solving, but don't overwhelm your audience with technical details. Erasmus Enterprise and ScaleNL continue their partnership journey!   Last week the ScaleNL Accelerator East Coast cohort expanded their horizons in a week-long immersive experience in New York and Boston. Investors, entrepreneurs, corporates, academia, and mentors flocked together to get a glimpse of what the finest Dutch innovators had to offer. Many new connections and commitments were made. As one of the key partners of the program Erasmus Enterprise renewed the commitment. Solidifying connections into Erasmus University Rotterdam for the scaleups, but also building cross Atlantic collaboration around female entrepreneurship (SheLeads) and Impact venturing.   As the Deputy Consul General Barry Nieuwenhuijs (she/her) explained: “Entrepreneurship is a cornerstone of positive change; the ScaleNL partnership with Erasmus Enterprise is a true recognition on how aspirational founders make their entry into the US; and how these ventures could potentially impact daily lives as they scale up. We are proud to facilitate this successful entry and contribute to the wider Dutch economic growth”   Ernst Hoestra, CEO Erasmus Entreprise; “We are proud to see the progress of the cohort and how the partnership effectively contributes to the accelerated efforts we want to make on true Impact.
