🌊 A Milestone in Maritime Innovation 🚢 We are excited to share a snapshot of the transformation journey of the cruise ship Vasco da Gama! This ambitious project, led by TecnoVeritas – Services of Engineering and Systems Technology, has elevated the vessel to meet the highest environmental and efficiency standards, while embodying the principles of a circular economy. 🛠️ Highlights of the Project: 🔸 Installation of five independent Selective Catalytic Reactors (#SCR) to comply with #TIERIII emission standards, ensuring environmental compliance in all operating conditions. 🔸 Implementation of an advanced emissions monitoring system, tracking NOx emissions and ammonia slip in real time, with data transmitted to shore for optimisation and improvement. 🔸 Upgrading the sewage treatment plant for Baltic Sea compliance, meeting MEPC.227(65) nitrogen and phosphorus removal standards. 🔸 Application of a slick hull paint, reducing fuel consumption by approximately 3%. 🔸 Enhanced engine components, comprehensive maintenance, and integration of operational performance digitalisation, connecting the vessel to shore. 📉 The Impact: 🔸 6% increase in fuel efficiency, resulting in significant CO2 reductions. 🔸 82% reduction in NOx emissions. 🔸 81.5% reduction in SO2 emissions. 🌍 A Model of Circular Economy Rather than scrapping the vessel, Vasco da Gama has been revitalised with cutting-edge environmental technologies and luxurious refurbishments. Situated along the River Orne and connected to the English Channel by the Caen to the Sea Canal, the city benefits from an intricate network of canals, locks, and industrial ports that support maritime transport and commerce. This waterway infrastructure is central to Caen’s economy, particularly in logistics and transportation. 🚢 Innovations to be demonstrated: 🚀 Automated vessel operations ⚡ Zero-emissions propulsion systems 🌊 Modal shift from road to inland waterways for efficient freight movement Meanwhile, Le Havre is taking on an equally important role by offering an estuary environment to test the design of a coastal barge and address the regulatory differences between inland and maritime transport. 🛫 CIRCULess project is travelling to Bilbao, for its M6 General Assembly, hosted by our partner TECNALIA Research & Innovation!! CIRCULess project is greatly aligned with the goals of #Processes4Planet and A.SPIRE, as it is fostering circularity in the construction and manufacturing process industries, by minimizing Construction and Demolition waste (C&DW) as well as Manufacturing waste (MW), with focus on #mineral and #timber-based material streams.
