Northpower's first solar farm, Te Puna Mauri ō Omaru, in Ruawai, Northland will be one of New Zealand's first large-scale community-owned solar farms. The investment aims to give the community an ownership stake in renewable energy, ensuring benefits stay in Northland. “Ownership is just one benefit,” says CFO Ollie O’Neill. “Northpower also aims to grow local skills, capabilities, and businesses, and deliver renewable services nationwide.” The 17MW farm is being built by Northpower’s Future Energy division, a new branch of its contracting business specialising in the design and construction of renewable projects. Future Energy is partnering with local businesses for equipment, machinery, and construction, employing community members including hapū from Te Uri o Hau. Exciting News from RAP Renewables this morning -we’ve been awarded the contract to deliver an 800kW solar array for Cleland McIver at its state-of-the-art sustainable facility in Rochdale. This major project will see us install 1,455 high-efficiency panels over 14,450 square metres, offsetting 30% of the facility’s annual energy usage and significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
