The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) poses questions not just for technology and the expanded plethora of possibilities it brings, but for morality, ethics and philosophy too. Ushering in this new technology carries implications for health, law, the military, the nature of work, politics and even our own identities — what makes us human and how we achieve our sense of self. "AI Morality" (Oxford University Press, 2024), edited by British philosopher David Edmonds, is a collection of essays from a "philosophical task force" exploring how AI will revolutionize our lives and the moral dilemmas it will trigger, painting an immersive picture of the reasons to be cheerful and the reasons to worry. In this excerpt, Muriel Leuenberger, a postdoctoral researcher in the ethics of technology and AI at the University of Zurich, focuses on how AI is already shaping our identities.

Last week, the Wisemindly.com team spent some time with Juliette Powell Powell in New York. Juliette is deeply engaged in exploring the multifaceted dimensions of artificial intelligence (AI). She raises essential inquiries about the critical aspects we still do not understand about AI, emphasizing the need for deeper insight into its complexities and potential risks. Juliette is also interested in how businesses can evaluate the benefits of generative AI, focusing on its practical applications and return on investment. She delves into the asymmetries of power that AI might exacerbate, questioning who the winners and losers will be in an AI-driven future, particularly highlighting the disparities between entrepreneurs and vulnerable populations, as well as wealthy nations versus developing countries. In her new book, co-authored with Art Kleiner, "AI Dilemma," Juliette reflects on whether she has discovered new dilemmas after its completion, offering a unique perspective on the evolving challenges posed by AI. Furthermore, she examines AI ethics, probing whether specific considerations in the AI context differ from traditional human ethics, thereby enriching the ongoing discourse on ethical AI development and implementation. #AIDilemma #ArtificialIntelligence #EthicsInAI #GenerativeAI #FutureOfAI

The Future of AI: Exploring Personalities, Motives, and Ethics As artificial intelligence continues to advance, one question stands out: how do the intentions and ethics of developers shape the "personalities" of AI systems? In my latest article, I explore the fascinating intersection of AI innovation, ethical standards, and the diverse motives of creators. From the promise of systems like Sentinel Intelligence—designed to prioritize adaptability and societal good—to the risks posed by less ethical approaches, this piece delves into the challenges and opportunities ahead. It’s a call to action for collaboration, oversight, and maintaining a balance between progress and responsibility. 🔗 Read the full article here: The Future of AI: https://lnkd.in/gNy33A3h I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can ensure AI continues to serve humanity while aligning with ethical principles. #Research #研究成果 ▌ #AI, #Ethics #Philosophy 📑AI as IA: The Use and Abuse of AI for Human Enhancement Through Intellectual Augmentation This paper offers an overview of the prospects and ethics of using AI to achieve human enhancement, and more broadly what the authors call intellectual augmentation (IA). After explaining the central notions of human enhancement, IA, and AI, the research team led by Associate Professor Alexandre Erler from the Institute of Philosophy of Mind and Cognition at NYCU discusses the state of the art in terms of the main technologies for IA, with or without brain-computer interfaces. Given this picture, the authors discuss potential ethical problems, namely inadequate performance, safety, coercion and manipulation, privacy, cognitive liberty, authenticity, and fairness in more detail. They conclude that while there are very significant technical hurdles to real human enhancement through AI, and significant ethical problems, there are also significant benefits that may realistically be achieved in ways that are consonant with a rights-based ethics as well. They also highlight the specific concerns that apply particularly to applications of AI for "sheer" IA (more realistic in the near term), and to enhancement applications, respectively Full Text ▌https://lnkd.in/gRfe-GM7

🌟 **Ethics in Artificial Intelligence: A Crucial Conversation** 🌟 As AI continues to evolve and integrate deeper into our lives, it’s imperative to focus on ethics in AI development. Ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability can help avert biases and inequities. Did you know that biased algorithms can perpetuate societal prejudices? For instance, AI systems trained on unbalanced datasets may inadvertently discriminate. 🚀 **Let's Dive Deeper**: I highly recommend the book "*Weapons of Math Destruction*" by Cathy O'Neil for anyone interested in understanding these challenges. 📢 **Your Turn**: What steps do you think are essential for ethical AI? New Frontiers in AI Ethics: Generative AI Faces Its Next Challenge 🚀 As generative AI weaves deeper into our daily lives—from creating content to influencing decision-making—researchers are now tackling a critical question: how can we ensure fairness and trust? A new study highlights that simply adding diversity to training datasets could significantly improve the perceived fairness of AI models. 🎯 Why does this matter? In 2024, as AI increasingly guides everything from hiring decisions to healthcare, the impact of bias can be enormous. Imagine an AI that sees diversity not just as a data point, but as a cornerstone of its logic. 🧠 By focusing on balanced data, we might prevent AI from amplifying existing biases and, instead, create models that reflect the real-world diversity we all live in. This isn’t just a tech challenge; it’s a societal one, asking us to rethink the foundations of digital trust. 💡 As AI grows more powerful, now is the time for industries to lean in and ensure that tech is working for everyone, not just a select few. 🌍 #AI #GenerativeAI #TechEthics #Innovation #ITResearch
