Thanks Keren Haynes and Shout! Communications for inviting me to your panel event yesterday called "A Day in the Life of the BBC". Jonathan Wall, Director for BBC Sounds, and Emma Morris, Editor for the BBC One Show and Morning Live, shared openly about their careers and discussed some pertinent themes around content creation in the media industry. Did you know that in the UK specifically, podcasts have a weekly reach of 19% among adults, with the highest reach among 25-34 years olds at 27%? Both speakers agreed that best in class content curation is critical for long-term success. Understanding the wants and desires of your audience is important, and good storytelling will continue to create appeal across all content platforms. But with newer, digital platforms becoming more and more popular, how content is distributed forms an important part of choosing the right audience and can simultaneously create competitive advantage. "The Traitors: Uncloaked" is a great example of non-linear and linear platforms working together to engage different audiences and promote product. Viewers clearly engaged with the storytelling and were given a range of ways to consume it. Following the conclusion of the main "Traitors" show, they could keep watching on TV, catch-up on streaming services, or listen later on their favourite podcast platform. This conversation was incredibly insightful and highlighted some of the challenges facing broadcasters in our digital age. Thanks for having me - until next time! #BBC #BBCSounds #Podcasts #Content #Curation #Digital #Distribution #Linear #Audience #Traitors

💡 I was recently reading the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s Digital News Report [linked below], and they point out how many of the most popular podcasts are now filmed and distributed via video platforms like YouTube and TikTok, “further blurring the lines between podcasts and video.” This is certainly true in the US Hispanic space, where we've seen many TV and radio personalities, content creators, and even actors and actresses launch video podcasts and grow their audiences quite quickly. It's definitely a trend on the rise and something brands should be aware of 📈 View report: https://lnkd.in/eBM7tNT6

Stuck in traffic? Comes with the following advantages: *Nearly 2x more time is spent with ad-enabled audio compared to non-ad-enabled. *Broadcast radio continues to lead In-Vehicle listening by a large margin. *The vast majority of ad-enabled audio listening is broadcast radio and podcasts. #DBXSMarketing #traditionalmedia #digitalmedia #advertising #socialmedia #videoproduction #branding #adagency #experience #fullservice #ROI #returnoninvestment #radio

📣 Calling all ad nerds! 📺 If you think a podcast delving into the social history of the 1980s through the lens of the (absolutely bonkers) ad breaks sounds right up your street, then have a listen to Them’s the Breaks. 🎙️In each episode, Martin (marketing nerd) and Jon (journo nerd) dissect each ad from a random 80s ad break. - What does it say about society at the time? - Could the ad be aired today? - Are we laughing at it, or with it? - Which childhood trauma does it unlock? You can find it wherever you get your podcasts. And if you see Sid, tell him. IYKYK 😉 https://lnkd.in/exK5whb7

Over my 17 years in college instruction, I taught at least three podcast-related courses, the most recent in Fall, 2022. If you want to set up a system and emote on podcasts in your free time, knock yourself out. If you think you'll be a millionaire with scads of listeners hanging on your every word, well.. No matter the medium material has to be COMPELLING and INTERESTING to succeed... https://lnkd.in/gpuzy3d4
