PSA: stop running full catalog ads in breaking news content. The logic isn't sound. The back catalog listens are remnant auto downloads that will not become listens or are not worth the advertiser's spend. This applies to most if not all news, companion content for reality TV, and some finance content (if it's about the current market). Especially in our current news cycle, the fall off in performance after launch is dramatic. High-converting listeners are not listening to news from two weeks ago. I'll give more grace to bachelor content as there's more latency... but not that much more. Sell episodically, raise the rate, and deliver quality listens.

What do you trust or relate to more when it comes to video content? Polished videos or ones that are raw? Is that a relevant distinction—can a video be both? The late Anthony Bourdain comes to mind. Does it matter where you're watching the video: YouTube, Instagram, Netflix? On your TV vs. mobile device? Incidentally, where do YOU watch most videos? These are the questions I've been debating with the dream production team and my YouTube channel partners Ti22 Films . No one wants to watch a shaky low res video with crackly audio, that's non-negotiable. But there's so much more to it than that. This latest video was shot at the same bakery I took Phil Rosenthal to on his Netflix show, Somebody Feed Phil. It aims at blending both that raw immersive feel that feels natural to me with the high production quality that is second nature to Ti22 Films. K7 Media reports that Netflix acquired their first YouTube user-generated video to stream on their platform. It was a video by YouTuber Niko Omilana, who shared his experience running for election as London Mayor in 2021. I think it may only be available in the UK as I couldn't find it on the platform in the US for now. With the rise in quality of user-generated productions, and many YouTube videos running the length of a half-hour TV series or more, the line between professional 'unscripted' productions and user-generated ones continues to blur. The effect isn't necessarily limited to grassroots documentaries like Omilana's. As a viewer, my love for House Hunters International easily translates into binge-watching moving or decorating videos on Youtube by individual contributors. There's a great apartment makeover series on YouTube by Alexandra Gater, for example. It's so well executed and packaged, you could easily picture it on Discovery+'s HGTV hub. I wouldn't be surprised to see more YouTube based user-generated content coming to traditional streamers soon.
