We are delighted to have contributed to the new series of #reports produced by KALAYAAN titled ‘Ready, Willing & Able: The cost of not allowing survivors in the NRM to work.’ The second #report of the series, ‘The Economic Benefits’ highlights how granting those within the #NRM will benefit the UK #economy, with an estimated £36 million being lost annually in income tax and N.I. contributions by not allowing these individuals to #work. We were proud to support this report as we recognise the value of a Right to Work scheme within the NRM. Our work over the last 13 years with survivors has shown the importance of access to employability support, providing #survivors with the ability to support their independent lives and avoid further exploitative working environments. It has never been more difficult for a young person to buy a house and to secure stable, meaningful jobs. More than 80% of Youth Foyer residents exit into safe and stable housing, 65% gain secure and decent employment, 40% achieve higher educational outcomes, and 60% are less likely to be involved in the justice system. The federal government has promised to leave no one behind. With housing affordability at record lows, we are asking the government to invest in building an additional 10 Youth Foyers across Australia to provide pathways to independent futures for up to 3,000 young people over the next decade. Funding for youth work services has fallen by more than 60% since 2014. Significant reductions in UK provision are linked to the huge rise in anti-social behaviour and young people's involvement in crime, according to government research commissioned in March 2024. We all know about the "empty Treasury pot". Which is why we've increased our public procurement collaboration activities, regionally creating new #socialvalueeconomies. Our ecosystem uses these collaborations to nurture social economies connected to public contracting, which flow into charities & social enterprises who deploy youth work to “reach more vulnerable, disadvantaged or marginalised young people”. We're facilitating relationships which are making youth provisions “more specialist and more reactive to address issues of crime, gangs or anti-social behaviour”. Find out more about our public procurement collaborations... https://lnkd.in/emE9txFU

Today has completely managed to restore my faith in good communication and discussion with planning officers because of 2 examples. The first being a Prior Approval scheme for residential that would provide a charity with well sized individual units for those who are vulnerably housed or homeless. Despite no direct communication with the officer emails to the general address were swiftly dealt with and despite a question over parking impacts arising the officer still managed to issue the decision without any request for extension. The second instance is an LDC scheme oddly to demonstrate that a use has been abandoned (long, complex back story to that). A quick intro email to the case officer now that 4 weeks has passed only to get a reply within minutes advising that the case is being discussed next week with a team leader and then I will receive an update. Small miracles when in other instances I am waiting still for a design officer to feedback on locations for a TVIA some 11 weeks after providing them (despite a PPA saying responses in 10 working days). I'll take the small wins though (albeit not so small for the clients involved).

When I used to hear the famous Village People Song it used to induce happy feelings, now it makes me think of the barriers some jobseekers face. As a lot of you know, my role is finding work for #CSCS candidates that complete #Construction #Training at our brilliant Training Academy's We have lots of referral partners (JCP's Probation, Charities, Walk ins) By far and away the hardest candidates to place are ones referred from #HousingAssociations. Some of the measures put in place to halt the progress of residents getting back into work are draconian, outdated and leave no cool off period. I fully understand that this housing should be soley for people who really need it but there needs to be a cool off period whereby a tennant can have a few months of earning so they can save up and find a place of their own. As it stands (And this is not all HA's) candidates rent can skyrocket upto £1k a month more once the resident pings as earning money. We have a handful of really good candidates that are desperate for graft but due to the above can only do the old 16 hours a week. Frustrating for all involved. brighter news its Friday, Kisstory is on in the office and I've got my lad all weekend 😁

The Public Benefits Organisations Act (PBO Act) was recently operationalised after 11 years replacing the Non-Governmental Organisations Coordination Act significantly altering the regulation of not-for-profit entities. The PBO Act is intended to revamp the regulatory framework for civil societies in Kenya to create an enabling environment for their establishment and operations. Managing Partner Rosa Nduati-Mutero, Partner Sonal Tejpar (formerly Sejpal) and Senior Associates Charlotte Patrick-Patel and Huldah Ateka analyse the changes introduced by the PBO Act and its impact on not-for-profit organisations. We’ve seen a significant jump in calls to our Advice Line over the past year – with calls rising across all sectors and professions. We worked on 3,047 total cases, a rise of 23% on 2022. The majority of calls came from the private sector (42%) with just under a quarter from the public (24%) and charity (23%) sectors. Health and social work experienced the most substantial increase, with calls climbing by 48% between 2022 and 2023. See our latest figures here: https://bit.ly/3UCQgif
