Hydrogen requires bold moves at this stage. While some are hesitating because of the US elections (or the EU regulation), others are taking steps to make change happen. Read below the official press release from the California ARCHES H2 Hub, that will push the energy transition by adding 10 production sites, 60 hydrogen fueling stations for trucks and buses, by replacing diesel-powered cargo-handling equipment in Ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles & Oakland and by helping transition key power plants in both the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Northern California Power Agency. It is estimated that ARCHES DOE projects will result in $2.95 billion per year in decreased #healthcare costs due to improved air quality, particularly along transportation corridors. https://lnkd.in/gDP3vXJY Some would argue, over and over, that light vehicles should all use batteries, and they would be totally right when it comes to energy efficiency, but again what about the grid infrastructure? what about time? what about health and clean air in the meantime? #energytransition #renewablehydrogen #hydrogen #california #arches #doe #h2hub #renewables #greenhydrogen
Bold move, $12.6B #California #H2Hub: Today, the California ARCHES H2 Hub and the US #DOE officially announced the signing of a landmark $12.6 billion agreement, including up to $1.2 billion from the DOE and $11.4 billion in public and private matching funds, to build and expand clean energy hydrogen across California. Summary of ARCHES Hub: - 10 sites producing clean hydrogen - Port of Long Beach, Port of Oakland, Port of Los Angeles to replace 200 pieces of cargo-handling equipment with hydrogen FCVs & #H2 fueling infrastructure -HD #ZEV Trucks & Transit Buses – ARCHES plans to build over 60 #hydrogen fueling stations to enable over 5,000 Class 6-8 FC trucks & 1,000 FC buses–directly replacing diesel fuel with #greenhydrogen. - Clean Power – Both the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power & Northern California power agency will transition key power plants to 100 % renewable hydrogen. - 165 miles (260km) of open access, hydrogen pipeline connecting hydrogen hubs to demand - Distributed fuel cells will be used to support grid operations, including the reservation of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians. - Scripps Marine Vessel – a hydrogen-powered 140-foot, 50-person marine vessel will use LH2 to replace diesel fuel. - Cuts up to 2 million MT of CO2 emissions every year – equivalent to pollution of 445,000 gasoline-powered cars annually; - Creates an estimated 220,000 jobs, including 130,000 in construction and 90,000 permanent jobs; - Estimated $2.95 billion/ year in economic value from better health and health cost savings; -40% of the benefits to disadvantaged communities. - Hydrogen Aviation development (TBA) “Today we are moving from concept to reality – advancing clean, renewable hydrogen in California which is essential to meeting our climate goals,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “California #tribes are excited to work with ARCHES on the Hub project which will help accelerate the state’s future of renewable energy and the development of the Hydrogen Trail initiative to bring sustainable energy stations and clean hydrogen to Federally Recognized reservations and rural communities,” stated Bo Mazzetti, Chairman of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, & ARCHES Board Member. This transformative investment will directly reduce California’s fossil fuels, marks a major step forward in the state’s efforts to achieve a carbon-neutral economy by 2045 and follows California’s selection last October as one of seven awardees of the DOE’s Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs (H2Hubs)–catalyzing a national network of clean hydrogen producers, consumers, and connective infrastructure. Kudos to the entire ARCHES teams who worked tirelessly to get this started. This is the first of the the H2Hubs to officially sign their agreement with the #US #DOE. Look forward to seeing #H2 progress towards Netzero for all of #US. Sources: https://lnkd.in/gYevFWg8 https://lnkd.in/g_9wUmEM https://lnkd.in/g6fATjxu
