Barnardos Australia welcomes the Federal Governments modest increase in financial support for families escaping violence. But we are wanting to see critical support for child victims of domestic violence. Poverty and financial control is one of many barriers to safety for victim-survivors. Families and their children require specialist services to deal with this complex and dangerous issue. While children are the most common victims of family violence, they remain invisible in this public debate. We support thousands of children, young people and families each year who are struggling with the impact of violence and abuse. It is vital that children have access to child-specialist #DomesticViolence workers. The impacts of family violence can last a lifetime for children and, as such, safety planning and recovery services for children is critical. We encourage both Federal and State Governments to place children's wellbeing at the forefront of their decision making.
