South African Plastics Pact’s Post

BREAKING! WRAP and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation have published a report which documents the impact from the past 6 years of the Plastics Pact Network. The report highlights that Plastic Pacts are a proven mechanism for delivering change at pace - providing a vital role in driving local, collaborative action around the world, informing and complementing national policy and a Global Plastics Treaty.   The report is supported by a document featuring a selection of case studies; powerful examples of the ways the Plastics Pacts are making an impact in their region. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dqyjCXjJ  Key takeaways of the report include: - The Plastics Pacts are proven to be an effective model for delivering impact on the ground and at scale towards eliminating plastic waste and pollution. - The Plastics Pact Network is demonstrating the swift and impressive impact that can be achieved through collaborative voluntary action, but this is not enough. - Voluntary action needs to be complemented by robust policy. The Plastics Pacts are uniquely placed to inform and support in implementing a future Global Plastics Treaty at a national level. - The Plastics Pact Network is ready to amplify its impact even further, leveraging existing mechanisms, mobilised stakeholders, and insights gained to focus on key challenges of reuse, flexible packaging and just transition. There is a vital mission ahead of us to address the urgent global crisis of plastic waste and pollution; Plastics Pacts play a significant role in this. Our goal is to 'supercharge' the Network, accelerating its influence and scalability both nationally and globally. With an ambitious Global Treaty, renewed business support, and additional investment, we believe the Plastics Network can play a pivotal role in ending plastic pollution in benefit of people and the planet.
