🌱 Nurturing Skills for a Sustainable Future in Agriculture 🌍 Now that its "highlights report" has just been published, I am thrilled to share further insights from the second meeting of the EU CAP Network event on "Nurturing Skills for a Thriving and Sustainable Agricultural Sector" that I had the privilege of attending on behalf of OnProjects. Held on 16 January 2024, in Brussels, the event fostered an invigorating dialogue among participants from 15 EU Member States, including managing authorities, national networks, European organisations, farmers, researchers, and more. Key Highlights: - Interactive Discussions: Starting with an engaging quiz, the event seamlessly transitioned into deep discussions about practical and theoretical knowledge exchange, spotlighting the invaluable mix of experiences shared among Thematic Group members. - Expert Insights: Agricultural economist Andrew Moxey's presentation was a standout, offering a comprehensive overview of skill development activities for farmers and agri-food workers, underscoring the importance of communication, overcoming barriers, and the essential "toolbox approach" for skill enhancement. - Action-Oriented Recommendations: The event culminated in action-oriented recommendations, aiming to pinpoint specific steps and conditions necessary for skill improvement in the agricultural sector, emphasizing a collective responsibility towards implementation and sustainable growth. The discussions underscored the urgent need for adaptability, environmental responsibility, and the embracement of digital and technological advancements to ensure the sector's resilience and sustainability. It was enlightening to see the emphasis on collaborative efforts to foster skills development, particularly in facilitating the transition towards more sustainable practices and ensuring fair conditions for all workers. At OnProjects, we will certainly integrate the results of the thematic group activity into our current and future projects, and we remind you to take a look at the report on the highlights of the second meeting here ⬇ https://lnkd.in/du6aJa9E #Agriculture #Sustainability #EUAgriSkills #Innovation #EuropeanProjects

To stimulate innovation, it is important—indeed, vital—to ensure interaction between the various stakeholders, including producers, researchers, and outreach agents, so that they can pool their ideas, opinions, and knowledge in order to solve the problems or meet the challenges they face. The European Union's Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture (DeSIRA) initiative champions a multi-actor innovation partnership approach. This approach convenes diverse stakeholders to exchange ideas, combine resources, and drive coordinated innovation efforts. Recognizing the importance of skilled facilitators, #DeSIRA-LIFT designed a specific training program. This program equips facilitators with the skills to guide these partnerships towards achieving their chosen objectives. Read on: 🔗 https://bit.ly/3xId5b8 #Trees4Resilience

🌱 Glad to be part of this event where I joined Andy Hall for overseas work in Vietnam as part of the #Aus4Innovation program! We had the chance to exchange valuable insights based on case studies from Australia and Vietnam. I have shared some lessons we learned from the #PestREADI project on how to better understand the gaps in Agri-Innovation Systems through a rapid diagnostic study to help inform co-design an information sharing platform to promote area-wide IPM. Lots of learning from other case studies presented on how they are ddressing sustainability challenges through institutional innovation by reorganising networks of actors through farmers’ clubs and similar innovation platforms and how digital tools are helping them for exchanging of information. Often context specific innovative strategies to deal with similar and complex challenges we are facing in both countries. Identifying what works and elevating these findings to the policy level can be a powerful tool for building resilient, sustainable agricultural innovation systems.

Australia 🤝🏾 Vietnam Since its inception in 2018, the Aus4Innovation program has been a beacon of partnership between Australia and Vietnam, continuously extending its efforts to address local challenges through innovation. Recently, this initiative marked another milestone with $1.45 million in grants awarded for joint agricultural research projects. By bringing together experts from Australia and Vietnam, #Aus4Innovation is advancing agricultural practices and fostering a global community dedicated to sustainable development. I've seen firsthand the difference that innovation has on local challenges. These joint projects will leverage cutting-edge technologies and research to improve crop yields, reduce environmental impact, and ensure food security for future generations. Programs like Aus4Innovation are crucial for creating resilient food systems. They provide farmers with the tools and knowledge necessary to adapt to changing climates and market demands. (Learn more about them here: https://lnkd.in/gbNMv2Q3) I’d love to hear more stories like this - share them if you have them!
