An intriguing commentary—lots of interesting points here. Although a well-crafted cover letter should be able to provide the customized narrative that targets the key focus areas of any specific job that someone is applying for. A mistake I see many people make is that they simply try to re-create their CV in narrative form in a cover letter—rather than use the letter as an opportunity to cherry pick some key areas for a deep dive that will highlight how well aligned they are for “that” specific job. I always tell my mentees to avoid a “copy/paste” approach to cover letters. Those letters are instantly recognizable and do not help you stand out (at least not in a positive light). Taking a customized approach serves as a great chance to show that you are putting careful thought into your application. It also allows the reader to see that you can think critically about how your skills and experiences align with their needs.
Are traditional academic CVs fit for purpose? 📑 A new article published by Cancer Research UK (CRUK) argues that traditional academic CVs often overlook the broader skill sets and contributions of researchers beyond publications and grants. The article explores role of the narrative CV in recognising diverse contributions in research and how CRUK has introduced narrative CVs. https://lnkd.in/eJFZUPRW

AI significantly impacts spatial biology by enabling the analysis of large-scale spatial omics data, as seen through this amazing research initiative- MOSAIC Owkin. This approach helps in understanding complex biology and ensuring precise treatment for patients by analyzing multimodal data from thousands of patients across various cancer indications. There's a lot(!) going on under the hood of cancers, better understanding of the mechanics will = better treatment!
AI driven spatial biology pushed 🚀 ! We have now included 600 patients! MOSAIC research, an Owkin initiative, is pioneering large-scale spatial omics with world-leading academic and industry partners as we build the world's largest oncology dataset with multimodal data from 7,000 patients. Across 5 cancer indications and 6 data modalities, with our partnering cancer research hospitals across Europe and the US - Gustave Roussy CHUV / Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, chariteberlin and University of Pittsburgh. Follow the MOSAIC journey as we explore the cross-over between spatial omics and AI to understand complex biology and ensure every patient gets the right treatment. Learn more at www.mosaic-research.com. Congrats to Hubert Chaperon team ad everyone participating!

Last month, I had the amazing opportunity to learn more about cancer care, treatment and research through the Rogel Cancer Center Careers in Cancer Care and Research Undergraduate Fellowship. Through presentations, panels and activities at the symposium I gained a much more in-depth understanding of the cellular mechanisms of cancer, its clinical manifestations, as well as treatment and therapy options. I am eager to apply what I have learned in this fellowship to my undergraduate research, and also to build upon this knowledge during the future training and career in medicine I am aspiring towards.
