Update from a project in Dore, Sheffield that's under construction. Around 10 years ago the client had refurbishment works aiming to create a sustainable and accessible home. But the quality of the construction was poor and there were areas that were problems. The house was still very draughty, with the internal doors rattling when it was windy. The underfloor heating was noisy and the wet room areas had leaks and were causing problems. Also the front entrance didn't work well. The porch was badly designed and the doors were a constant issue. So we're transforming the house by designing a dramatic double-height front entrance with a more logical connection to the house. A new terrace at the rear, with external shading to keep the house cool in the summer. PROJECT UPDATE! Working with Collins Construction Ltd, TTSP have been developing the design on this imposing building in the heart of the theatre district. The intent by the client has been to undertake a sympathetic and careful refurbishment, making energy improvements wherever possible. The fabric of the building needed upgrading to achieve EPC improvements. Works have included stripping back the slate roof and fully insulating (including flat roofs). On the main façade, with each large window flanked by 2 smaller windows that are separated by concrete columns, that presented a challenge. Weighing up the extensive works required to remove the existing cavity insulation and reinstate new insulation it was agreed to line/insulate the internal façade and keep the existing insulation in-situ whilst applying the appropriate level of firestopping between window openings and party walls. Windows were replaced all around greatly improving both the appearance and thermal performance of the building. The project is expected to achieve an EPC rating increase from D to A and BREEAM Refurbishment Fit Out Pre-assessment Excellent. With the hoarding now down, the new front entrance can be seen for the first time and with light flooding the space, you can really see it beginning to take shape.
