Hear from Matthew Muir, a student in Scotland: “The Microphone Kit enabled me to explore another aspect of learning and I was able to follow lectures with captions which were easy to understand. This allowed me to note-take information easily.” Book a free demo with Adam today through our website and see how you can get this kit fully funded through DSA. 📚 #accessibility #deaf #deafcommunity #unitedkingdom #uk #hardofhearing #inclusivity #inclusion #student #university #microphonekit #deafawareness #deafaccess #community #accessible #accessibilityforall #accessibilitymatters #assistivetechnology

🌟 Important Read! 🌟 Thanks to Gabriela Volle, M.Ed., for sharing this with me. As stressed in a recent Education Week article, English Learners (ELs) and students with disabilities are often overlooked for gifted programs. I've witnessed this firsthand, and it's disheartening to see how systemic barriers persist. The lack of a robust process for identifying gifted students in many districts, coupled with inequitable resources, continues to sideline potentially gifted EL students. ⏰ It's time for a change. We need more inclusive strategies that acknowledge and nurture the diverse talents of all students. Let's discuss how we can make our educational systems more equitable. #EducationEquity #GiftedEducation #EBs #ELL #K12 #EdTech #EquitableResources

The use of assistive technology (AT) in schools plays a crucial role in supporting pupils with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). We recently evaluated a Department for Education training programme to help teachers make the most of AT. Key findings showed the training had an impact on the confidence of teachers, more effective use of AT, as well as improvement in the behaviour and engagement of pupils. Areas for development included the usage of video and case studies, ongoing follow-up support and more focused, hands-on discussions around specific needs and tools. Great D2L blog on the importance of accessiblity in education, featuring my VHS Learning colleague Kim Spangenberg. Check it out!
Education is a fundamental gift for intellectual growth, but issues like accessibility affect many students. With an estimated 1.3 billion people experiencing disabilities globally, it’s crucial that aspects of education are inclusive to all types of learners. Check out D2L's latest blog on accessibility in education featuring our Associate Dean of Curriculum, Kim Spangenberg. Inclusive Education means providing equal opportunities to all the learners whether disabled or disabled in a regular classroom setting. Inclusion in education demands an inclusive society, an inclusive school, an inclusive teacher, and an inclusive curriculum. #inclusiveeducation #inclusion #inclusionmatters

Children who practice martial arts through ARDE's Ninja Warriors Program not only learn valuable self-defense techniques but also build a strong foundation in essential life skills. Our program focuses on helping kids develop confidence, discipline, respect, and self-control—qualities that are crucial in handling challenging situations. For children who face bullying, these skills can be life-changing, empowering them to stand up for themselves in a calm, assertive manner. At the same time, kids who may struggle with aggressive behaviors or bullying tendencies can benefit from the discipline and respect emphasized in martial arts training. By learning to channel their energy positively, they gain a deeper understanding of empathy and self-regulation. Through ARDE’s Ninja Warriors Program, kids not only get a fun and engaging physical activity but also grow into confident, respectful, and self-assured individuals who are better equipped to navigate their social worlds.

Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting learning opportunities must be an ongoing goal in all schools to ensure full and productive lives for all children and adolescents. Despite considerable progress in school enrolment, hundreds of children and adolescents are still unable to access specially designed accommodations in school, and this is where education systems struggle to keep pace towards inclusive education. ‘Neurodiversity’ is a term that describes the natural differences in the structure and functioning of the brain that determine how children and adolescents receive, process and respond to information about the world; this is where teachers and educators may struggle to deliver inclusive education due to external pressures and normative frameworks. Additionally, attitudes and misconceptions about neurodiversity can further impede inclusive education and prevent the adaptation of teaching methods to cater to diverse student needs. Let us not forget that neurodiversity is a natural and valuable form of human diversity.
Building essential skills for supporting teachers is crucial in creating more inclusive and equitable classrooms. And learning in the cultural competence space is never done, Dr. Christy M. Byrd said at #APA2023. #schools #teachers #classrooms #inclusion #equity

🔍 Myth: Dyslexia is caused by poor teaching or lack of effort. 💡 Fact: Dyslexia is a part of human neurodiversity, not a result of inadequate teaching or effort, the brain processes information differently. While effective teaching strategies can support individuals, dyslexia itself is not caused by the quality of education or a student's motivation. Let's focus on understanding and supporting diverse learning needs. #DyslexiaMythbusters #Neurodiversity #Inclusion #DyslexiaAwareness #UnderstandingNeurodiversity

I: Inclusion. The challenge for a teacher in how to ensure the needs of all the students are met from diverse backgrounds, lifestyles and learning behaviours, is one that is like no other sector. Knowing your children/students is one of the largest barriers to overcome. However, once you have found a way over this, it makes lesson delivery so much easier for you in that class. Check out our latest blog: Co-Teaching: Planning The Independent Station https://lnkd.in/ezFK3g4C Station teaching has so many benefits for teachers and students: small groups, built-in movement, both co-teachers teaching all students to name a few. A benefit that isn’t highlighted as often is the independent station! “…but our students can’t work independently!!” Can you relate? We hear this a lot, K-12, especially post-pandemic. Here’s the thing: students need the opportunity to practice working independently in order to grow their capacity and stamina for working on their own. #educators #longislandteachers #teachersoflongisland #inclusivitymatters #schooladministrators #inclusion #inclusiveeducation #teachersofinstagram #education #classroom #coteaching

“For teachers, it can be difficult to have students with different levels of #learning in the class, but nonetheless, all #learners are #different. If they keep in mind that students with intellectual disability have learning needs just like other students and understand their baseline, where are they starting from and what do they next need to learn? It is helpful for them to plan with a special educator what their learning needs are and speak to that individual learning need within the same #curriculum. At the same time, all learning is not related to academics. So for #teachers to keep in mind that students with intellectual disabilities are also picking up social cues from their peers and they are learning other behaviours from their peers which may be helpful to them. And also keep in mind that they set the example for other students in terms of their attitude towards students with intellectual disabilities. If they bring to the table what other students can learn from the students with intellectual disabilities. It's a win-win situation all around.” - Dr. Vibha Krishnamurthy #inclusion #specialeducation #teachers #winwin #intellectualdisability #learningdifferences #specialneeds #socialcues #peerlearning #socialemotionallearning
