💡Our latest research underscores the critical funding challenges within the feminist abortion justice movement. Echoing Melinda French Gates's latest statement, we need to robustly fund feminist movements so that we can play offense instead of just defense. Partnering with Women Spaces Africa, we found that most community abortion justice groups receive only minimal funding, primarily in the form of restricted project-based grants. They rely mostly on volunteer work and in-kind material donations to sustain their work. 🚨 This limited support fails to sustain the long-term resistance and creativity needed to advance abortion justice globally and neglects the security and well-being needs of the front-line collectives fighting for abortion access in deeply restrictive & antagonizing settings. The current landscape, where less than 2% of philanthropic funding is directed towards feminist and gender justice causes, demands urgent attention. With rising global anti-gender movements threatening bodily autonomy worldwide, it is imperative to strengthen our collective commitment to funding abortion justice efforts. Explore the summary of insights from our research to learn how we can better support the grassroots movements driving transformative change in abortion access, rights, and justice worldwide🌍https://lnkd.in/eBun2-fS

On the anniversary of #Dobbs, we ask those who stood with us then – how have you courageously championed justice and freedom? Here are steps for those who want to get more involved: Give Now and With Trust: Support local abortion funds, practical support networks, independent providers, and reproductive justice organizations. Listen to Movement Leadership: Follow BIPOC-led organizations and those on the front lines. They have the vision for accessibility, agency, and self-determination. Plan for the Future: Envision a world where abortion is accessible and stigma-free. Recognize the long history of racism and classism in reproductive rights. Collaborate Across Strategies: Use all strategies – grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, legal support – to ensure abortion access. Embrace trust-based philanthropy. Invest in Movement Infrastructure: Support BIPOC, Transgender, and Non-Binary organizations with flexible, multi-year funding. Avoid extractive practices and focus on sustainable community investment. ✴️ Join us on the path forward: https://bit.ly/45D9is8 Ms. Foundation for Women #ReproductiveJustice #AbortionAccess

I have to tell you something really inspiring about Melinda French Gates After that huge 2022 Supreme Court decision on abortion rights, Melinda totally revamped her approach to #philanthropy. 🌱 She actually stepped down from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to focus on supporting reproductive rights here in the U.S., while still continuing her amazing work abroad. It’s all about her commitment to balancing support for organizations that champion women's rights. ♀️ She’s going all out with her new Philanthropic Plan through Pivotal Ventures, planning to #donate a jaw-dropping 1 billion dollars by 2026 to promote women's rights globally. Out of this, 200 million dollars will go straight to organizations defending reproductive rights. Another 250 million will be aimed at improving #women's #mental and physical #health. Plus, 240 million dollars will be given to 12 influential leaders to help distribute funds to key groups. 💡💰 What I love about Melinda’s approach is that it’s not just about addressing gender inequalities; she’s also setting an example for other big philanthropists to follow. By empowering local leaders and bringing #diverse perspectives into #philanthropy, she’s really changing the game. It’s so exciting to think about how these changes can create a ripple effect, #improving the lives of #women and #girls #worldwide and boosting the global #economy through #gender #equality. 🤝 Imagine the impact we could have if we all followed Melinda’s lead and supported causes close to our hearts. Let's think about how we can make a difference too! 💪
