Daily Knowledge Series - Neuroscience What is the "Anterior Midcingulate Cortex?" Back to the treasure chest of Dr. Andrew Huberman's knowledge. On a recent podcast with David Goggins - they discuss this region of the brain that controls persistence and willpower. This is especially important to be aware of in older adults, whose cognitive capacity starts to slow with age. Or people who become too "routine focused." Scientists have discovered a hallmark sign of growth in this area is when the brain is able to overcome aversive tasks. AKA, things that we REALLY don't want to do, but do them anyways. Think of it like "positive punishment." Can you think of a time when you were unhappy about forcing yourself to do something you didn't want to do and then at the end of it, you were pleasantly satisfied? That is the source of developing willpower. #neuroscience #personaldevelopment #willpower #behavioralscience #cognitivescience #cognitivebehavioraltherapy #discipline #resilience #focus #mindfulness #dailyinsights #dailyknowledge

This post continues my two previous ones and explores how exercise affects the human brain. Recently I discovered a TED talk by Wendy Suzuki, Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the New York University Center for Neural Science. She explores the incredible impact of exercise to our brain. I found it very interesting. I wanted to share this with you; I think it's worth watching! Below is a brief summary and the link for anyone interested. Regular exercise can have profound effects on brain anatomy. One notable change is the increase in the size of the hippocampus, a region crucial for memory and learning. Studies have shown that aerobic exercise, in particular, stimulates the growth of new neurons in this area. Additionally, exercise promotes better connectivity between different parts of the brain. This enhanced connectivity is associated with improved cognitive function and can contribute to better decision-making and problem-solving skills. Moreover, consistent physical activity has been linked to an increase in the volume of the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for decision-making and complex thinking. This increase is believed to enhance executive functions such as planning, problem-solving, and multitasking. In summary, exercise induces positive changes in brain anatomy, promoting neuroplasticity, connectivity, and the growth of key brain regions. These alterations contribute to better cognitive function, mental well-being, and overall brain health. Below is the link to those interested. Happy exploring! https://lnkd.in/eicQAuG2 #ExerciseAndBrainHealth #Neuroscience #StayActive

There is no “hack” for #willpower 🙅♀️ Friction is the critical ingredient & you’ll find it in “this sucks” 😫 Do the hard thing. Make the cold call. Show up. Your greatest challenge 💪 is your greatest opportunity for growth 🚀 Fascinating discoveries in #neuroscience 🧠 👉 The anterior midcingulate cortex (ACC) is an area of the brain that enlarges when people resist temptation and push through unwanted tasks.....*(including but not limited to this post) 😅 👩💻 #thanksforsharing @ Andrew Huberman #brainhealth #mentalhealth #brainscience #psychology #sales #motivation #mind #careercoach #careermotivation #careerguidance #careersuccess #knowledgeispower #brainfood
