I’m editing my podcast with Olympic Gold Medalist Connor Fields OLY. Here are some of my key takeaways: 1. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥, 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟, “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬?” Instead, think in terms of, “What choices am I making?” It creates a positive outlook on the same question. 2. 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫. For Connor, that’s been BMX coaching, speaking engagements, brand sponsorships, and sports consulting. It’s all tied together so that his brand can continue to grow in the same direction. 3. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞, 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭. There are multiple ways to flip athletics into a post-athletic career, but you need to find the path that’s right for you. 4. 𝐓𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡’𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬. The people who have great stories and do big things are ok with massive wins and- in Connor’s story- massive lows, even to the point of near death experiences. 5. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫. Without relationships, you won’t have the ability to pivot to where you want to go. The attitude around women's sports has drastically shifted from a narrative of "the right thing to do" to "we must invest in" properties. Look no further than Women's College Basketball Final 4, the recent numbers around the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) draft, and the huge increases in franchise valuations in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). These properties are serious growth businesses. Think of it as an early "tech boom" for sports. This growth is also seen globally. The Women's World Cup, the England Lionesses, FC Barcelona Women, Chelsea and Arsenal, and the Women's UEFA Champions League. Women's Football is a massive growth business in Europe. The market cap is unknown. The sky is the limit. Nikki Doucet was the guest on the SportsPro Live podcast. Nikki is the CEO of NewCo who has taken over operations of the WSL in the UK. This interview is massively informative and eye opening around the unlimited growth potential for the WSL and the strategies and leadership needed to accelerate that growth. Sports Business Classes - - Listen to this episode. How is the situation in the WSL similar to other women's sports leagues? Where does it differ? Explain Nikki's obsession with the "consumer" and understanding the three core consumer groups and how to serve them? Which consumer group shows the largest growth potential? How would you cater to that group to spur on growth? Thanks to Lee Hyde for inviting us on to tell our story. What I loved about this conversation was Lee's encouragement to discuss the daily challenges of running a start-up - especially one that has chosen to operate in the ultra-competitive space of licensed sports apparel. Brands typically use these platforms (LinkedIn included) to talk about all of their wins. And while we certainly do discuss our wins, what I hope really resonates - especially with our fellow small businesses - is being able to voice and be transparent about just how hard it is to operate and scale a small business in this industry. Being an entrepreneur can be lonely. It's an absolute grind every single day (weekends included). Cash is always tight. You constantly feel that you are two missteps away from failure. Finding the right people is difficult. But all of that being true, there's no other way that I would rather spend my professional life. It's been an absolute blast and privilege to grow Streaker Sports with my childhood best friend Cory Fahey. As we discuss in the episode, we lived for the backyard sports and team sports we played as kids in central New York - and it's that exact feeling of nostalgia that we've built our business on. I'm so proud of what we've accomplished with Streaker to date - parlaying small, niche licenses into much bigger ones and taking a brand which we have bootstrapped with a tiny team and making a name for ourselves in a pool of VC and private equity-backed companies with 10x our headcount. Much more to come from us!

We dive deeper into their chase for the licensed IP of Peanuts® Snoopy and what it took to get a response to their long-game approach. Recently the brand have had major success with a vast number of college licenses. We find out how these opportunities come about and what it takes in order to bring their unique style to these iconic educational brands. You won't believe the access Streaker Sports get to the archive vaults! We also discuss one of their more obscure licenses - Zamboni Company and how the brand are hooked by the cultural impact the Zamboni has had on the beloved game of hockey. Such an important conversation in the elite athlete space! If you’re an elite/pro athlete between 24-27 and haven’t hit the big leagues, not secured a good income, no sponsors chasing you, seriously consider moving on. Especially if you’re career/money motivated, it might be time to make sport a secondary thing and focusing on another career as a primary focus. You don’t want to be an under experienced, under skilled 30 year old entering the corporate sector…if you have goals of earning money that is. Look, you can, it’s not the end of the world, but aside from having fun, what are you trying to achieve by still chasing your sports dreams? (24-27, you haven’t made it yet, you probably won’t!) Check out my latest conversation with Rosealee Bartholomew a former elite sprint cyclist now entrepreneur in the recruitment space (link in comments) on the Athlete2Business podcast! We deep dive into this topic - “when is it time to quit sport?” #hiringathlete #postsport #athletetransition

What happens when you make a promise to yourself and you keep it? 🤔 You get to smile! 👏 In the middle of January, I decided to put myself out there and start a sports podcast interviewing amateurs right the way through professional athletes and coaches. The podcast is called "Athlete's Blueprint". To test my metal and push myself I said "You've got to secure 10 interviews to show your serious get it onto major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music" I did that and by the end of the day, I'll be on 11. I had the opportunity to interview: 🏋️♀️ 4x World Champion Disabled Strongman Alfie Wright 🥊 Nate "The Snake" Jones of Floyd Mayweather's "The Money Team" 🐎 British Champion Dressage Rider, Josh Hill 🥊 2019 Golden Glove Winner, Team USA Olympic and Pro Boxer Bola Osundario 🏉 Championship Rugby Player, Loose-Head Prop Kirsty Batten And lots more incredible people who are more than dedicated to their sport. It's not been easy, I've spent the last 6 weeks 👉🏾 Editing video and audio way past midnight 👉🏾 Writing scripts and interview questions 👉🏾 Researching and contacting guests This is just the start, it's not perfect by any means but it feels nice to deliver on a promise to yourself. If you fancy a listen see the comments for a link to the first two episodes. P.S. If you are an athlete or coach be it amateur to professional shoot me a message. #athletes #sportscoach #podcast #podcasting #sportspodcast #sportsmarketing #sportsmedia
