AN FEI CASE STUDY 🌍 FOR EVERYONE A quaint video accentuating the bond between humans and horses-creatures like no other in the animal kingdom. However, the blatant use of stock footage showcasing a black man with his equine partner is insulting. Do they think we (EMBERS*) would not notice? While real-life footage of white grooms, trainers & competitors are used, you splice in a generic insert. It is a great shame and cause for major concern that the FEI’s agenda of promoting their global campaign of this Olympic sport does not reflect 80-90% of the global population. WE KNOW WHY! They are systemically denied the equitable advancement opportunities as white riders. Is there no end to this “old guard racial-bias -culture” in sports? Despite the many *Experienced Multi-Ethnic and Black Equestrian Riders* worldwide, the FEI still believes a stockpile footage of a black man is all that is required to give an illusion of equal participation and accessibility of EMBER groups in the sport. Although not surprising, since the FEI does not have nor subscribe to an authentic DEI initiative. There are multi-ethnic and black riders (MEBs) all over the world who deserve to have their stories featured in this video, proclaiming their ancestral bonds with their horses. BUT that has been stripped away from them as non-participants. And therefore their voices. I hope the FEI takes this opportunity, especially in an Olympic year to change their ways and enact progressive policies in advancing MEBs in all equestrian sectors. Just as other global sports. Because it is dying without it. 🐎 #FEI #OlympicCommitee #OlympicParis2024 #OlympicSport #GlobalSport #EquestrianSport #BlackEquestrian #MEBs #Horses #CommonWealthGames #BlackLivesMatter #BlackEmpowerment #BlackBusiness #BlackFemaleBusiness #Mission44 #SirLewisHamilton #F1 #MercedesBenzAMGPetronasF1team #Ferrari #DEI #OlympicChange #DeloitteUK #DeloitteUSA #DeloitteGlobal #Amex #RolexGrandSlam #LGCT #LGCL #TommyHilfiger #HM #PoloRalphLauren

The Olympics. It's the world’s biggest stage, where sports come alive and stories go on to live forever. Big sports like Gymnastics or Aquatics don't need to promote much—they already enjoy a huge following and coverage from media worldwide. But the real question is: how can niche sports use this global spotlight to grow their fanbase? You need a strategy. There's no point in showing another horse jumping or a happy rider after their test. If the audience doesn't understand what they're looking at, it won't interest them. But if you launch a campaign like the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and Redtorch did? You have my full attention. Why? Because this campaign doesn't try to explain how the sport works; it presents what is special about it. What you can feel anytime you sit on a horse, even if you are not an Olympic rider. A Bond Like No Other This is what holds enough power to make people want to be a part of it. It's about the unique connection between horse and rider, a narrative that resonates on a deeper level. This is how niche sports can shine on the Olympic stage. By highlighting their difference and creating emotional connections. If you practice any sport, what is special about it? #Olympics #SportMarketing #SportGrowth #FEISportsForum #EquestrianSports #Paris2024

Again, we can see the tension between a social licence focus on survival of the sport versus a welfare and wellbeing starting point that focuses on the horses and humans engaged in interspecies activity. The first I think is a defensive position where minimum change to maintain social licence to operate would be the likely objective, the second more about maximising possibilities to uphold positive horse and human welfare and wellbeing in any interspecies work (including for sport/leisure)
Paris 2024 is the last Olympics for Equestrian Sport. Or at least the last ones as we know it. The International Olympic Committee – IOC has called for changes in the equestrian formats, including modifications to medal ceremonies in eventing. This has sparked a wave of concern among enthusiasts. Many are up in arms, claiming, "They're destroying the sport." But let’s pause and reflect. Are we too clingy to tradition? Yes, tradition preserves heritage, but it can also drown innovation. In the dynamic landscape of sports, sticking to “what’s always been done” is like holding on to a sinking ship. The changes proposed by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) are not about diluting the essence of equestrian sports; they're about making it more accessible and engaging for a global audience. The sport needs to evolve to stay relevant and to capture the imaginations of new generations. Think about it. How can we expect to grow our fanbase if we’re not willing to change? Innovation isn't the enemy of tradition; it's its savior. This is a new chance to redefine equestrian sports, ensuring it remains a part of the Olympic movement for years to come. What do you think? Are we ready to let go of the past to secure a brighter future? #Olympics #EquestrianSports #SportInnovation #IOC #TraditionVsInnovation #Paris2024 #SportGrowth #FutureOfSports

Winning Olympic Gold with a punctured tyre is superhuman! Congratulations to Team GB’s Tom Pidcock, who defended and won the Olympic Gold in Cross-Country Mountain Biking in what I think could be the most spectacular gold in these Olympics. Pidcock went into the 8-lap, 4.4 km race with a commanding 30-second lead in lap 4, and only France’s Koretzky keeping up. Then he gets a puncture which in all cases means the race is over. Yet in this case an Olympic legend unfolds in the last 4 laps. Here is what happened and some great lessons I took away. Pidcock was leading the 4th lap with momentum and looking comfortable. Just before a technical drop, he stopped to avoid any risk, and it turned out to be a great call, as his front tyre was deflating fast and he could have hurt himself. This is my first lesson watching Tom: being totally in the moment and aware of everything around him. The level of presence to ‘feel’ his bike and make a split-second decision that would mean a race and an Olympic dream were over, was decision-making mastery. What happened next was nothing short of brilliant. Pidcock let his mechanics replace his front tyre while he stood there sipping fluids from a bottle like a cool cucumber. He was more relaxed than a retired couple having a stroll in the park on a sunny day. What I took away here is how not to stress about things not in our control, and make the most of what’s possible, and in his case, it was to let his body relax, take in all important fluids, and breathe a little. That was all he could do at that moment and he did it impressively well. Pidcock got on the saddle again in 9th place and 39 seconds behind the leader Koretzky. The 8 riders ahead of him were the best in the world, with Nino Schurter arguably the greatest of all time. But clearly, Pidcock was not thinking about it this way; he just picked the next 8 riders like they were 8 separate races. He only focused on the next step in his control, not all 8 at once. The next 3 laps were an amazing display of focus and discipline to just get to that next step like any good salesperson does in a long sales cycle. Incredibly, Pidccok regained the lead entering the 8th and last lap, with everyone guessing if he had anything left in the tank. Koretzky was leading without pressure for 3 laps, and as expected, his fresh legs allowed him to regain the lead and put a few meters between him and Pidcock, who was trying everything to catch up. Pidcock’s last brilliant move was pure genius. At one point, the trail split around a large tree. Pidccok timed this so well that both riders came out together and almost collided as they re-entered the single track again. The presence of mind to take this calculated risk and throw caution to the air, literally putting everything on the line and executing it precisely was just legendary. The rest was academic as Pidcock went into the last stretch and crossed the finish line in 1hr:26m:22s Congrats Tom and Team GB.
