The risk of "quiet quitting" is much more intense in a hybrid/remote working world. Instead of making assumptions about how your direct reports are not carrying their weight, here's the most important thing to monitor to avoid your employees 'quiet quitting' 😖 Check out a quick video where I weigh in on the current labor narrative around quiet quitting and offer my recommendations around what we really need to monitor and how. #employeeengagement #quietquitting #hr https://lnkd.in/eDtagGcP

I'm sure more sophisticated monitoring of computer activity is the precise way to improve productivity and worker morale. People love being surveilled and monitored, and it generally endears them to the folks doing the surveillance and monitoring. On the other hand, it's also possible that this brand of "the beatings will continue until morale improves" approach to workplace management will backfire spectacularly. The evidence in this article suggests that such monitoring is pretty effective at getting people to spend their working hours constructing elaborate ways to evade surveillance. What if we just, you know, made the jobs better or focused on outputs and not inputs and let people have a modicum of agency in their lives and work. I suspect you would have a better chance at improving productivity and would have less workers building Rube Goldberg like anti-spy contraptions. #goodjobs #workplace #workspy #leadership #motivation.

Aaaahhh the reality of post-election stress. And distraction. While we await a result for the House, the doom scroll temptation is strong. For a more productive use of time, employers and HR professionals are studying the article that 12 of my hard-working Fisher Phillips colleagues published yesterday, titled "Top 10 Workplace Law Developments to Expect Under President Trump." This is focused on the workplace, because that's what we do, and these subject-matter specialists have provided a comprehensive analysis that is second to none. A big thank-you to the authors - appreciate you very much! https://lnkd.in/er-R23hZ

If you want people to abide by your policies, rules and contracts of employment, then those documents need to be clear, easy to read and understand. They need to be written in plain English, not in “legalese”. If people cannot understand your policies, then how can they be expected to abide by them? A well-written policy (or other document) can illustrate your company culture (“the way we do things round here”) and can help people to understand what is expected of them, what they will get from you in return, and why it is all important. If you want to know more about producing clear policies and other documents which your employees understand and use, then read my latest blog. https://lnkd.in/eRKAin2k

60 MINUTES OVERTIME How "prebunking" misinformation works By Will Croxton March 24, 2024 / 7:30 PM EDT / CBS News This week on 60 Minutes, correspondent Lesley Stahl reported on the ongoing debate over how social media companies, including Meta, X and Google, moderate harmful content, like false medical information and hate speech, on their platforms. Some critics say these companies are not doing enough to combat the proliferation of this content on their sites. At the same time, some politicians, like Rep. Jim Jordan, are accusing the companies of colluding with the government to silence conservative voices online. 60 Minutes spoke with Sander van der Linden, a professor of social psychology and director of the Social Decision-Making Laboratory at Cambridge University. Van der Linden's research centers on how people interact with misleading or false information on social media, and why some end up believing things that are either half-true or completely false. Van der Linden told Stahl that misinformation, content that is entirely false, exists on social media, but misleading information, like half-truths and biased narratives, is much more prevalent. https://lnkd.in/gCUtr5Ug
