They say the construction industry has been slow to change, but that's not what I see. 👷🏼♂️ I see steady measured progress. I see safer working conditions, thoughtful design, breathtaking engineering, innovative project delivery systems, environmentally conscious material choices, and a concerted effort to rethink how and why the next generation of builders will join us. I see an industry of builders constructing a brighter, safer, and more productive future. What do you see?

Unmet, unsafe and with consequences ahead; that was the view taken by regulators nearly a year on from the implementation of the Building Safety Act for Higher Risk Buildings. Here, our director of architecture Kieran Bradley discusses the potential risks to programme management, and how the construction industry can deliver more purposeful, safe and secure buildings for the future. Tired of negative press? Government still backs MMC In the September UK House of Lords debate on the role of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in housing construction, we were delighted that British Offsite's UNisystem was one of only two 2D panelised systems referenced an exemplar of how MMC can positively impact the construction industry. During the debate, emphasis was given to the potential of MMC in addressing net-zero goals, as it can deliver high-quality, greener homes more quickly than traditional methods, enhancing supply and benefiting the environment. MMC also offers the opportunity to overcome the shortage of skilled construction workers, creating new well-paid jobs and attracting a wider pool of talent. While the low-rise modular market has faced challenges, such fluctuations are expected in innovative sectors. A steady demand pipeline, clear requirements, and accessible finance are essential for broader MMC adoption. The government is actively driving demand through initiatives like the Affordable Homes Programme and collaborating with the British Standards Institution to establish new specifications, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Overall, the government shares the sector’s ambition for growth and success in MMC. Talk to us about how UNisystem can add value to your project ~ https://lnkd.in/eh8hi-Rb

🌊 Our role isn’t just about drying out the sea, it's about creating a vision! 🏗️ While our main task is the inspection and dewatering of marine structures, I always emphasize that in construction, it’s essential to go beyond laws and regulations. My fellow engineers hopefully understand one key thing: investors don't just want functionality—they want to visualize how the structure will look in the real-world setting. They also want to track how the structure ages, catch the moment just before it deteriorates, and invest precisely the amount needed to keep everything working—never more than necessary. In the era of Construction 5.0, designing is no longer just a technical process. It’s a tool for creating realistic scenarios where aesthetics, technology, and sustainability come together. Construction is no longer isolated but integrated into a broader context. Our job is to bring that vision to life, ensuring that each project fits seamlessly into the environment where it will stand for decades to come.

Pushing Boundaries - Efficient Design and Construction to Reduce Carbon in Concrete Our annual joint seminar with Engineers Ireland will take place on the 11th of June 2024 in Engineers Ireland, Clyde Road, Dublin 4. Introduction: Reducing carbon in concrete requires not only changes in the material’s manufacture but also smart, well-coordinated and efficient design and construction decisions. With no single strategy available to achieve this, innovative approaches are needed in the way in which projects are designed and built. This seminar will provide practical information and guidance on optimising design and construction decisions to aid in reducing carbon associated with the use of concrete. Our industry professional and expert speakers will cover important details from helping clients understand and minimise impacts to smarter design and construction processes which can lead to reduced embodied carbon emissions. A case study on efficiencies achieved in the steel industry will also be presented. Chaired by Robert Laird of ESB, speakers include Paul Astle of Ramboll, Adela Tablas of Arup, Eddie Lyons of O'Connor Sutton Cronin, Keith O' Flynn and Joe Gartlan of John Sisk & Son Ltd, and Tony W. of Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies.
